    My 08 Tacoma shut off unexpectedly at a red light smoke coming from passenger side motor will not crank back up. Any idea of what the problem is?

    How was your engine temp?
    Any noises or smells prior?
    Have you checked the oil and coolant levels?
    Any obvious leaks?
    Will it crank but not start or not do anything?

    well. To find out you would do a lot of different checks.
    Checking the timing is one of those things you could do. If you feel like taking the time to remove the valve covers which need to be resealed anyway.

    My bet is that it isn’t a timing problem.
    Pop the hood and take a look. You may even have to crawl under the truck.
