This thing ran like a top, just wanted a more modern drive train. It was not meant for a 1x setup, so it still needs some tweaking but it all works!

Were you able to just change out the crank, or did you have to do the Bottom Bracket as well?

Same cranks even! All I did was slap a new chainring on the old cranks. The cassette fit right on the old hub since Shimano has used the Hyperglide hub for so long. Chain is a bit short but it all still works. I need to space the chainring in a bit and it’ll be done.

I'm assuming you need to space the chainring to get a good chainline. I'm under the impression the issue sometimes with 1x conversions is an iffy chain line and chain drop. Am I close in thinking that?

Yeah, I just bolted the chainring to the crank, the chainring lines up with the 5th gear from the top. I need to space it in a couple mm.

I had to do that with my replacement cassette. It was just off by a bit. Then I had to adjust the derailleur as well. There are some good videos on YouTube by Park Tools about how to do a lot of these things. The derailleur can be a bit fiddly.

I got the derailleur spot on, it’s a new 10 speed micro shift. It goes thru all the gears nice and smooth but it has a weird angle in the big gear. If I can space the chain ring in a little bit, I think I’ll be golden.

I've bagged RTTs a lot, guess who's joining that RTT life?

Not permanently. Will keep the cab setup when it's just me. But for when wife comes with - RTT it is I guess.

Nice. I have a 3x8 I take to and from work but haven't since the end of June. Heat and tattoos haven't helped. Should be able to again here soon though for a while. Thinking that will go to a 1 by. My road bike is a 2x10 and I considered it since I almost always use one up front but then going to block island took that off the table. Just deal with it for my usual rides and have it for when I want it.

I f'in hate chain line stuff. I can break down and reassemble an entire bike in the blink of an eye but chain adjustments blow. I will happily go to a shop for trying wheels, but chainline stuff I just swear at it for 37 minutes straight and get a solid B+ out of it.

Connor is. I like the clamshell style I just don't like tents in general. I prefer my platform. For obvious reasons

But with wife we won't fit in the cab. This fit us and the dog enough for some long weekends here and there. I'm unlikely to use it much solo vs my platform.

Next step in the spring will be solar/fridge setup. I'm already scheming that one.

Your Motobecane...was that from bikesdirect? If so curious what your buying experience was like with them

When I got my Specialized Epic Comp a few years ago I perused their website but got my bike on a deal I couldn't pass up.

I honestly done even remember anymore. It came needing assembly which was easy/standard.

Yeah I am debating how all out I want to go. One zone fridge would be all I need but a two zone fridge freezer would be sweet :D I just don't know I'd get enough freezer use to justify the up front cost and added wear on keeping it that cool.
