Not sure if this is fairly common and/or the severity of addressing or how to fix.

It's got about 180k miles and I've done some towing with it as well (some boats/trailers).

Looks like that center bearing needs replacing to me. It has spilled it's guts on the floor pan above.

Good time to check the U joints too.

    Great video.

    That's a toasted carrier.

Time to replace and or upgrade it.

You wouldn't like my truck lol, I grease my U joints frequently and slowly slowly pump it in till I start seeing clean grease coming out the seals, I have grease sling all over my underbody, free rust protection.

Basically just saying that sling isn't necessarily an indicator of a bad U joint.

Unless you were implying the sling is from the carrier bearing, in which case it's a sealed bearing and lightly greased from factory they don't typically sling.

Yeap that should be it exactly, I have a like on that vid so I must have watched it when doing mine.

Honestly I think I'd take it to a shop if I had to do it again.

Getting those U-joint needles to stay and play nice was a huge PITA for me it was not a fun job.

Isn’t that just from excess grease from doing u joints?

It’s actually hard to tell from the video.
These trucks have more play than avg. in the carrier even when new.
I noticed mine had play in it when I got it at 24k miles.
I’ve looked other new trucks and they were just like mine.

You really need to look at the bushing material too.
But at 180k, you aren’t going to hurt anything by changing it.
And I can’t think of a reason why you shouldn’t.

Just take it easy on the bolts when you put the bolts back in that hold it up.
You don’t need reef on them, the last thing you want to do is break them off.

I’d personally break them loose by hand too.
