Do it. I think you'll be happy with it. Nexus +p was great from day 1. Blackhawk was far too aggressive initially but once mooseditty adjusted the tip in on mine to be more nexus like it's perfect. My truck is such a joy to drive now.

I still have my "pocket protector" from college circa 1974 - Nerd was an enduring term then, and getting bent and twisted was the beginning of the party!

    I get it.
    I'm largely with you.

I found myself really disliking the way my 3rd gen shifted. I was really displeased with it.
It wasn't unusual for it to "shutter" between gears at 50ish MPH.

    Acceleration was pretty dreadful.

I can't speak for Blackhawk, but the Nexus +P has completely changed my opinion of the "drivability" of the 3rd gen truck.

If you're happy with the way your truck accelerates and shifts, I wouldn't bother.
If you're displeased with how the truck shifts and accelerates, give it a try.

I echo this. Nexus +p was great, better than any other tune I've run (to be fair, I haven't used many aside from the included Vf tunes and Mooseditty's "Daily Driver"). I moved to Blackhawk and was quite impressed by the torque and shifting improvements, but the tip in was a bit much for my liking.
My stupid driveway is long, rough, and uphill and it was just too twitchy. I'd imagine off road it would have made me crazy.
Then I got the adjusted Blackhawk version from Mooseditty and it's just awesome in every way. The best parts of Blackhawk without the twitchy tip in. I am one VERY happy customer.

I wanted to state publicly that it has come to my attention that an individual within the TTN/OTT network is reaching out to YW/Nexus customers who have been tuned on the Blackhawk tune, linking them to this thread and encouraging them to research the limp mode issue (presumably to eventually gain their business) that was discovered, acknowledged publicly, and addressed professionally in a timely manner.

Anybody who creates and releases tunes for this community knows and understands the level of difficulty and responsibility that comes along with it, and unfortunately it is a simple fact that issues can come up. This is why tunes are tested thoroughly, but it's always possible for something with a low percentage rate of occurrence to slip through, and so tuners do as expected of them and any other company: receive feedback, determine cause, develop solution, test, and distribute.

The community does not need immaturity and greed injected into this process, not to mention that the nature of these messages amounts to something like slander and/or defamation, particularly when these messages are sent weeks after the issue was resolved.

The community, and both YotaWerx and Nexus customers, can rest easy knowing that the collaboration that resulted in the Blackhawk tune is committed to providing safe tunes for your vehicles, and when issues are discovered (even after hundreds of hours of testing and just as many revisions) they are taken seriously and addressed quickly and professionally. @Mooseditty17 @Kevinpd325 @ktbell444 and Frank (his handle won't come up) have my continued respect and support through this, or you wouldn't see a continued commitment to the collaborative Blackhawk tune. It is a product we thoroughly believe in and stand behind as a premium tuning option available for your vehicle.

We ask that the customer base please keep the professionalism and their experience with the customer support they've received in mind when receiving messages like what was described, because at the end of the day it's simple immaturity and greed and has no meaningful place in this community.

When you flash the ECU in your truck, you have to accept the risk of something going wrong. If you can't afford to risk it, don't flash your truck. It's just like any other mod, from bigger tires to lift kits to pedal commanders to ECU tunes, they all have the potential to negatively effect your truck. Fortunately the Nexus team stands by their work and fixes issues that come up in a timely manner. And unlike many other problems that you can run into, the fix for tuning issues is usually as simple as re-flashing your truck, which takes all of 10 minutes. I've been tuned since early 2018 (OVtune 1.02) and these guys have the best customer service I've seen so far. Whoever it is that's messaging people, don't bother with me lol

Yea, they can try and bribe me all they want. I'm not flashing anything else on my truck. Blackhawk is just too good

Remember the time OVtune took certain individuals into legal matters when they spread slander about his company? That was a good example of why it’s important to not talk smack or defame a business…it can backfire big time…plus it’s just flat out wrong.

Blackhawk is the best tune I have driven in 25+ different tunes since 2017 hands down. Haters can hate, but this tune is the best.

Not sure if this was brought up, but is there a gear lock feature in sport mode to keep the truck from downshifting ? Or is it possible to get a version of Blackhawk with it?

    Yes sir.

Currently, gearlock is activated on tunes with "+GL" in the file name by hitting the ECT button and going over to S-mode. Normal ECT function is otherwise disabled on these tunes.

When VFTuner publishes their EROM 1.2 features, proper gearlock is supposed to be enabled and will no longer require the use of the ECT button.

A good example of this is already in use with the YotaWerx 2020+ 4Runner tunes.

What changes does the ECT button make in the standard Blackhawk tune w/o gear lock?

Shift points and a slight adjustment in tip in. Nothing crazy that makes towing impossible, but that doesn't mean special requests cannot be made either.

Increased throttle sensitivity, longer holding shift points. Allows for a more "natural" sporty driving experience, and works wonderful for towing.

On a lighter note, I got to use 4LO this weekend for bout 25 miles and it was so much better than any other tune Ive run on trails. I only wish that I had thought to try out 4LO w/ECT before the last mile of the trail. Oh well, theres always next weekend.

Once again, bravo to the team for this tune.
