So Ive been keeping up with maintenance and using the truck as a truck but not driving harsh.

I just hit 60K and suddenly nothing happened. That seems a bit early, I hear of Toyota engines going well last 300K with nothing happening so I’m concerned. It drives great. I looked around at the other dozen or so vehicle models around the world that use the FKS and they seem to be having the same reliability problem.

Could someone chime in with a statistical anomaly I can lean into please? Any comments about getting a 2 gen would be helpful, as they always are. I’ll report back when there’s news.

What you read here, while serious for the few individuals, is not even a blip in the real world.
No worries here and I know statistics.

I looked into the extended warranty as I sit at 31k. Spoke to my neighbor Toyota Master Mechanic about issues he sees with the 2020 and his response was save your money and if/when something breaks…… Enuf for me to pass on the warranty. 8yr/125k would be around $1400. YMMV

So how many 3rd gen owners are excited to flood the 4th gen forums when they inevitably have drivetrain issues during the first few years.

I will add to the statistics. 71,000kms of flawless reliability. I sure hope I get to 72,000kms!

@2GRFKS I love you, don’t go changin. You’re a race engine but you’re also a minivan engine. Best of both worlds?

that’s poor advice. That “if” and “when” could be “$3,600” out of pocket plus rental. Plenty of us 3rd gen had the extended and it came in handy for sure. Unless your rich. Check out my thread on cylinder issue

I don’t mean to dismiss the problems folks are having. Engine trouble is brutal and I don’t make light of it. Our engines are reliable but still subject to incredible stress by virtue of what they do.

Same. I've spent far too many Sundays going to farmers markets with my wife since I bought my Tacoma. Should have gotten a Gladiator.
