Three teens in the back seat should be the priority. That isn’t happening in a Tacoma, period.
The fuel mileage does suck too. I’m lucky if I get 17 mpg in my 2014. I’d be somewhat happy getting around 22 in a new one but that’s still pathetic considering full size trucks are doing the same or better.

You can still get an Access Cab Off Road in MT, unfortunately you have to go to Canada to get one.

Diesel prices depend where you live and it is an excellent point and also one that I absolutely have considered. I was stunned that out in Vegas and Moab, diesel was only 20 cents more per gallon than gas. Here in NY, that is more like $1.40. I agree on the Hyundai, no chance in hell. I have a brother and two relatives who had to get new engines at less than 100k. No thanks.

This was my record mpg one-way to work. Maybe one day I’ll reach 30mpg

Flat roads, 55 mph I'll get 25mpgs easy.

Too bad that terrain isn't too common in my area...or daily driving.

Ridgeline gets 18 and 24. I'd rather have a real truck and loose a few miles per gallon on the highway. The Maverick is worth looking at and the Ranger. I am in no major hurry. I love Taco and had all but the color picked out, until it appeared I was only getting 20-21 on the highway at 70. Any slower than that and you are a hazard on most interstates. The lack of center rear seating sealed its fate for now. C'mon Toyota, pop up the fuel economy and knock the cover off the ball.

Get the Sienna Woodland Edition. AWD, 36 mpg, perfect for hauling people. It just isn’t cool…or is it??? Hmmm…

Seems like the perfect freeway flyer, people hauler, most camp ground duty. Willing to bet the majority of truck owners would be better served with it. Know I could make it work. My only gripe is they don’t make a cargo version.

For real! I’d buy one as a second travel/weekend camper getaway vehicle. Plenty of DIY Camper-ish additions to be added as well.

Yep, GTRV even makes a pop top for it. Sure guys will say you can’t off-road with it. Will do majority of FS Roads just fine, probably what most Tacomas see anyways. I’ll probably get a lot of backlash for my next comment, but the Tacoma really isn’t all that good at off-road either, anything you do to it will only make it marginally better which hurts performance and fuel consumption. Side by Sides have come such a long way, better buying one of those than tossing a bunch of money at a Tacoma. Or better yet get motorcycles, Tacomas can only dream of where you get one of those.

Hmmm, what can that thing tow. If it has a 4k or more towing, you have peaked my interest. 36MPG has to be hybrid though, right? I will look into that for sure.

A Sienna is a better option for many than a Sante Fe or Ridgeline.

Covered under warranty though. You don’t get a 100K warranty with much else.

    Yes hybrid.

You already have a truck for doing truck things. Sounds like you also need a people mover, easy parking, trip vehicle.

Two different flavors of reviews. Doug is a bit more in-depth.

Looks like it will tow 3500 pounds. That is worth looking at. I need something that will tow 2k pounds WAY better than our CRVs. I can just tell that I am killing the CRV when towing a pathetic 1000-1200 pounds.
