The LMNT contains no sugar. That’s one nice thing about that brand.

Gatorade mix here. I keep a small water bottle of a strongly mixed Gatorade in it and my water in a camelback.

I went 11 days in a row a couple of weeks back. Averaging 15mi & 2200ft of elevation in the 80-95° New England heat. I think if it wasn't for the liquid IV I wouldn't be going as strong as I was towards the end of the trip. Obviously also supplementing nutrition bars during the ride and somewhat healthy meals.

Again I only pull it out under the more extreme situations. Otherwise water and some nutrition bars do the trick. I do like that is has sugar, salt, and a mix of metals.

LMNT is pretty great! I usually drink one a day. When I’m riding I just use base salt and a carb mix, either tailwind or skratch, Base salt is basically Himalayan pink salt with some potassium. It lets me control my salt intake a little more strictly especially when I’m racing.

I'm pretty into Skratch for shorter rides. Tailwind or Gu Roctane for longer rides and racing. I use less mix in the water for all of them.

hmmm I've been thinking I want a road or gravel bike now... Been riding my mountain bike on the road and some paved/gravel paths to try to mix it up some. I'm definitely hooked on biking now, so I guess its time to hop on craigslist and marketplace lol

    Gravel baby! Eat it up!!!

I have both, road and gravel. The gravel is fun to do it all (I have 2.2” tires on mine, so I really go anywhere it). I like the stability the wide tires provide compared to the skinnier gravel tiers some of my buddies use. Only place it gets me is on the road a bit, but….that’s ok. I deal with it.

    Have fun shopping!

Thanks haha! I like the freedom of a gravel bike to kinda do-all. I'm not needing to break any speed records, but definitely being held back by big clunky mtb tires and a drivetrain that is geared for all off road. There is a lot to digest between each type of bike and trying to figure out what I really want. plus seeing what is available used and in my size, but hasn't been dogged on.

I bought an overpriced Yakima wind fairing for the van rack and it totally eliminated the whistling (if that's what you're after)

Seems like these are gaining momentum since the muddy World Cup podium at Snowshoe...may have to see what all the hype is about

Yeah I drink it for hangovers

Just got the racks installed, now it really feels like my truck! May upgrade the old Thules to 1ups.

Guys, let’s talk headsets. I’ve never had to actually buy a headset. Any brands I should stick with or stay away from? Worth spending more on it? I feel like most bikes I’ve ridden have had either FSA or Cane Creek. I’m thinking either cane creek or wolf tooth.

Cane Creek, Wolftooth, Hope, Chris King, White Industries. Cant really go wrong with any of them, just depends how flashy you want to get..

That’s what I like to hear haha. I’ve been on a wolf tooth kick recently, might try to stick with their stuff as much as I can for matchy matchy haha

Northern Utah hit 77% humidity over the weekend. Air felt a little thick trying to pedal around yesterday. Reminds me why I hated living in Alabama all 3 times.

Finally made it up Pikes Peak in under 2 hours. Was pretty difficult and thought I wasn't going to make it. Made it to the first aid station about a third of the way in at 42 min. Second aid station 2/3 of the way in around 1:25. Kinda forgot there was about a mile of flat/kinda down hill near the top which made up some time. Definitely a slow grind all the way, but super stoked I made it.
    upload_2022-8-15_8-48-38.jpg

Then a few hours on some dirt flowy trails the next day because mountain biking is actually way more fun.

Cane Creek 110. You’ll get tired of the bike and sell it before the headset has issues. You could go with a lower tier CC and upgrade the bearings later if sticker shock is hard to overcome for the 110. I’ve done CK and FSA, never tried Wolftooth, but the CC was a noticeable improvement on the first bike I installed it on. It’s been in use for 6 years now and on its third bike. Buy once, cry once item.

What do you think is harder, dealing with elevation and lack of oxygen in Utah, or pedaling through this oxygen rich 90 degree sauna in Alabama??

AL Sauna for sure. After living here for a little while, you acclimate to the elevation and extreme dryness in the air and it just becomes normal. I live right around 5k feet, and routinely ride in PC and the Wasatch range where you're at 7k feet plus. I honestly don't even notice the elevation anymore. My sister that lives in VA got altitude sickness last time she came skiing for a week though, so it can bite you if you hit it hard immediately.

Plus "dry heat" is totally a thing and even when it's 90ish* but the sun goes behind the ridge in the evening, I don't mind riding in the heat.

Lastly, I'll trade a slight decrease in athletic performance from thinner air for the ability for multiple thousands of feet downhill runs essentially in my backyard.
