    I like the Mountain Hatch or the Relentless Fab but just can't justify $200 or over for this mod (too many others LOL)

    Kills 3 birds with one stone for me. I've had the same issue with mulch/gravel stuck between the tailgate as well.

    Was going to suggest basically this.

    Amazon is full of rubber mats, yoga, standing mats, even diamond plate rubber mats lol. All cheap. If you get one flexible enough, just leave it a little long, bolt it to the top (maybe get a new tailgate cap and jam it in there), then it over hangs the bottom gap when loading stuff and it's rubber so when you close the tailgate it just slides or bends out of the way.

    I'm thinking the same thing. I found this one https://state48overland.com/products/pakrax-05-current-tacoma-tailgate-panel?variant=30329659064459 but I'm still not sure if its worth it. I only want it to be a flat surface I can use as a table when camping. Does anyone have any experience with this product?

    I cut a Dee Zee tailgate mat to fit and reused the stock screws to hold it down. Mine was mostly to add some padding and a little more traction when the gate is down. The tailgate does drop faster now but doesn't slam down. Have a used like new on Amazon for 32 bucks shipped right now.

    one guy on this forum used adhesive and foam that was around 1/2" thick or so (sorry dont know the thickness) that he cut into strips and then stuck down in the valleys. He said it was also easy on his knees when he kneeled on the tailgate. I'll see if I can find the thread and edit if so.
