I honestly see zero evidence to show that it has been touched at all. I just went out to get better pics on my lunch break. Each rock chip is clearly not painted over, as you can see a grey-ish in the middle and the edges all have almost a white around it. Hopefully these are a little better. Unfortunately both yesterday and today the pics are in direct sunlight, next to a white house, so that isn't helping lol.

Still waiting on dealer to call me back but I did log into my Toyota account and it noted that the trucks come with - Rust-Through Coverage
60 months/unlimited miles (corrosion perforation of sheet metal). So hopefully they can act on that. Not sure the ins and outs of that but just something I saw.

Proper repair of that (cutting out all rust, fresh metal, limited filler) would be expensive on an edge like that.

If they are going to work your warranty (as they should), I see a new hood in your future.

Once that's settled, if you long for a skewp, ask about paying the delta........ lemonade and all that.

Shitty Toyota Paint + Rust Belt. Guarantee there's more rust on other parts of his truck particularly screws/bolts/underneath. Toyota *should* fix it under warranty but they may tell you to get fucked too.

It's honestly not too bad, considering. Nothing out of the ordinary. Like I said, I put my 2nd gen through hell. I was commuting up I-79 to work 5 times a week and taking weekend trips, going to the races etc. No matter the weather, that truck was getting driven. It had the usual knicks from such driving but saw the elements so much more. The frame looked reasonable upon inspection (they treated it but said it was showing no signs of deteriorating) and never had any bubbling or rust from the body panels. This truck sees significantly less overall driving, but does see the elements still obviously. And like I mentioned previously, I looked at the area as close as I could and there is zero evidence that there was prior damage, repair or paint and no records of it. It just looks like moisture got in that fold and it corroded from the inside out. I hope they see it that way and help me out. I suppose if they tell me to take a hike, I will see if they can at least give me a reasonable price on a new hood. I'd be willing to meet halfway. I'm not the type to look for handouts, but I do not think this truck should have bubbling paint at 4yrs 37k miles.

I can't imagine toyota NOT fixing that. HOWEVER, the coverage is "rust-through" and "perforation" which that is not and I was told by my salesman they specifically look for those 2 things.

Looks like something corrosive got into the hood compartment and lingered there. In my opinion there's no way that's a defect, previous owner got some chemical on/inside the hood.

In the picture you quoted, the panel on the far right is the grill border. Not sure if that helps visualize.

I don't have any zoomed out of that angle to show. And I apologize for the one I just posted. I was really struggling to get my camera to focus on that area and was really struggling with the sun overhead and my white house giving off crazy glare. I took a bunch of pics and most of them were useless lol. But I figured for this purpose even though it's blurry, you could see the spot in relation to the rest of the truck.

I just posted about this in another post about rust prevention. Mine is on the driver's side. No, it's not repainted. No, it's not from chips. When I saw it I sprayed a lot PB Surface Shield through the holes close to the spot and when I lifted up the hood higher, about 1/2 a cup of water ran out which was displaced by the Surface Shield, so water is sitting up in that area and rusting from the inside. I'm fairly sure Toyota won't cover it as it's not "perforation" as stated above.

Perhaps it was submerged in water. Pull up the front carpet and take a peek.

Not a rust belt or water issue, I live near the desert. Mine has that along the window edge- it’s a paint issue.

Mine was most definitely a water issue. Borescoped and saw the rust in there after I saw the brown water drip out.

is there a clogged drain hole? Should there be an additional drain hole? Gosh, seems like a dummy design issue
