Android Keeps Dimming Itself

Who here knows anything about Android phones?

My Pixel 4a keeps dimming the screen. I like my display to be at 100% brightness all the time regardless if I am outdoors in the sun or in a dark closet.

But ever since a few updates ago, the damn thing keeps dimming on its own. (I have Autodimming turned off). This is especially annoying when I'm outside on a bright sunny day, and the screen will dim itself down to like 20% brightness. Sometimes the screen gets so dark that I can't even see the Settings icon to go in and turn it back up to 100%.

Now I could understand it dimming itself if I was in a darker environment; ostensibly to not hurt my eyes or something. But in a bright sunny environment it should turn the brightness up; not down.

WTF?

 

Do you have any sort of battery saving turned on? That will, oftentimes, change the screen brightness

 

Do you have any alarm, do not disturb, or "sleep" schedules set?

That can override auto dim too.

I have auto dim off but a schedule set to dim and turn on the blue light filter and do not disturb during my regular sleeping hours.

Also I have a Pixel 5G and it's completely gone to shit since Android 14.

I bought the Pixel to have the best Android experience and it's been one of the worst, even speech to text is absolutely shite now, will be going to Apple as soon as a USB-C phone drops.

Google keeps screwing things up and heading more proprietary and locking stuff down hiding settings and pretending like they know what's best for users anyway.

If I can't use my phone fully featured and have full control then I'd rather be in a nice functional technology prison like Apple than this dysfunctional bug factory.

Generally, no. I might turn it on manually when the battery gets low, but then turn it off once it is recharged.

 

No, nothing like that.

 

Then go to a 6 or 7 in a month or two.

Android 12 is the latest version. Not sure what you are referring to unless, as is most likely, that was a typo.

 

Yeap 12, dunno where I got 14, probably from IOS14.
