So after 1000 miles should I be driving at extremely high speeds with sudden acceleration, and driving at constant speeds in low gears?

New member with an attitude ……

As an engineering executive I have learned it is usually better to be “approximately right” than “precisely wrong”, but I have only been doing this with two OEM’s for 30 years, so I am still learning

Let's say the engineers knew that to get best power and best fuel econ, the right way to break in the engine was to heat up the oil and then do 20-30 redline pulls asap. Would they be allowed to put something like that in the user manual or would the legal department prevent it due to huge legal issues it would cause from people constantly killing themselves doing this on the road?

Personally I think there is 0 difference in how you "break-in" an engine, as long as you maintain it properly, it will last. I highly doubt that every single Toyota owner takes these measures, yet Toyota engines are known for their longevity.

I’m just quoting the manual guys. I don’t need to quantify or define anything for you, LunarTeal. You can interpret the words in the manual however you want, stephenk620. I don’t care about a “what if”, greengs. All of you can follow the manual’s recommendations or don’t, I DGAF.

I’m with @Bishop84 on this one.
It’s not the engine I’d be worried about.
Engine material and how they are built have changed a lot. Engine break in is like 3k mile oil change. It’s just been around so long, no one can get passed it.

What hasn’t changed is differential technology. If, and I mean “if”, I were to worry. It would be more about the differential. If you’ve ever had a gear swap or new differential built, you’ll know what the procedure is. Which is basically what the owners manual is telling you.

All that said, I wouldn’t worry about anything.
