Same thing here at a local garden center. Who knew all those plants, shrubs and trees came packed into 53 feet long 18 wheelers...

Then I washed dishes throughout HS, weekends and evenings. Kept me out of trouble AND I bought my first car for cash at 15  Had to wait a few months to drive it (needed to get my license) but it gave me a chance to learn some wrenching skills to make it road worthy.

Times were tough in the late 70s, early '80s.

I got 9 nieces and nephews.

Only 2 are worth me letting them use my name as a reference...and that's not needed since they are happily working already.

Can we get the thread back on to stuff more enjoyable?

I'm actually embarrassed that I commented on the above.

Below is my version. Rechargeable, fits nicely on my key ring, computer chip controlled with two levels of brightness. Still brings a smile when I use it.

Pulled in the drive this evening to find Daisy, the yard foreman, in a serious conversation with this guest.
They were just about nose to nose.

    KIMG2358.jpg

Apparently she considers me better conversation as she abandoned the guest to come see me.
I was trying to take a picture of the deer directly behind the cat...

Friends that are struggling with jobs n what not- it's not always greener on the other side, but often times it is. I was there 5 years ago.
Underpaid and underappreciated. Blinded by the thought that being loyal to a company meant something. I was training into a position/raise for over a year and when it came down to it, I got 22 cents/hour with the promotion. Nothing to sneeze at but the responsibilities that came with it were much greater.
In my eyes juice not worth the squeeze. I didn't let it affect my attitude, I outworked everybody with a smile on my face. And I gave a shit, nobody could say he doesnt give a shit about this place. I knew I was getting out one way or another. I had gotten comfortable.
It took a damn good woman metaphorically kicking me square in the keyster for me to see which way was up. I was capable of more. And I was going to go get it.
Greener pastures are out there friends. Might have to move. Might have to go backwards before you advance. Keep the faith and keep outworking everyone around you.

Exactly. Ya never know unless ya try.

In happier news, @koditten sent me some
flywheel magnets to try out on my zero turn. (Thanks again!) As I get time I’ll update y’all on that project. After it’s up and running again, we’ll be digging into the trencher no-spark issue, and/or possibly the game of “where’s the oil in cylinder 4 coming from on my old Massey Ferguson?

(probably leaking past the valve stem)

I feel the urge to make a comment :anonymous:

I'm the (somewhat) typical old guy; I don't care what anyone does, or where they do it....just stay out of my yard.:)

The thing is, people dont have to work anymore, so what's the motivation? Just get your check out of the mailbox and you're good.

    Super quick story...
When I was about to turn 16 I was playing football at school; I remember telling my dad that I needed a car to go to practice....he said I could either walk to practice or buy a car and go wherever the hell I wanted. I've had a job ever since.
I had no choice but to work if I wanted transportation and a couple of bucks in my pocket for gals and beer:anonymous:.
Now everything is just handed to folks.

Something that absolutely perplexes me: Young men who don't want to work.

As Stock said above, our goals were simple: Get a job>>get a car>>get a girl.

No girl worth dating would date a guy who didn't work.

I'm retired. I work harder than I did for the company.

    My list of jobs:

Rewire an equipment trailer. 4 hrs=$350 in my pocket.

Install "D" rings in a covered trailer: maybe 2 hrs= $250 in my pocket.

Diagnose a mower with low power: 1 hr=$100 in my pocket...more if it needs special attention.

Fabricate equipment ramps so the ramps can slide closer to each other: 2 hours= $225 in my pocket.

Install an electric tongue jack on an equipment trailer: 3hrs= $135 in my pocket.

I'm sure I'll get a call tomorrow that I have to put the customer off since I got things ahead of them.

All these number I thru at the customers. Not one blinked, hemmed or hawwed about the price.

If you own a welder, wire strippers, soldering iron and a floor jack, there is no way you will go hungry!

    @Hunterdc1
Thank you for sharing this :101010:

I stopped tonight and got the supplies and let a cheap bottom round marinate for about an hour, I now have a quart of apple cider vinegar, $4.99...

    Damn, Sam! I impressed myself!

The plan was to save 1/2 for tomorrow, then I got to thinkin', a meteorite (or something) might slam into the house tonight (I live on the top of a hill) so it only made sense to polish it off. :burp:

    Thanks man :thumbsup::thumbsup:
