I bought a new tacoma two weeks ago and i am getting 22mpg. 2WD v6 SR5. When I drove home from dealership I only got 19 but as it breaks in and I get used to the tranny it is improving. No complaints here. Theres a lot of factors in MPG too, increased corn to 15% at most gas stations, driving 75 on highway vs 85, elevation/temp, AC (keep mine at 76,). Only thing Ive noticed is tacoma does not like hills. A lot of fuel to climb and you dont really regain it on way down.
Did you test drive a brand new taco?

There's more to a truck than gas mileage. Dependability is why the tacoma has such a great resale value. I would never waste my money on a chevy.

I drove a 2020 Taco on the test drive with 20k. Agreed, dependability is a major attraction for this vehicle.

I think both Premium and diesel are still over 6/gallon. no different than having two fill up my two LXs. gas prices dont bother me

Me neither. Not that I have money. I don’t.
But my commute and everywhere else I go with a daily driver amounts to about 3 k miles a year. A lot less than most people.

Just buy the truck, man. This one or the Ranger. If you really preferred your 2002 diesel, you wouldn't still be here discussing the small details like dependability... You said it yourself- you're considering a small truck for financial reasons. So make the pragmatic call and follow the KBB lowest 5-Year Cost to Own.

    @SwollenGoat
First, love the Ivan Stewart avatar.

Vans - My wife DD’s a 2018 Ford Transit 250, mid-height. Came as a 16 passenger van when we bought it.

We’ve stripped most seats and sold them off, but have factory seating for 5, plus a side mount couch in the rear that seats three more (again, side-facing) and it flips out to form a bed, or flips all the way against the wall like a toy hauler couch.

We’ve fit up to four dirtbikes inside back there (I don’t recommend more than three however) and still have the seats for five.

She averages 16-17 MPGs and she loves it.

Before the Transit we had a 2015 Mercedes Sprinter, Tall 170 wheelbase. Mercedes drove significantly better and smoother than the Ford, turbo diesel mileage was around 18-19.

Sprinter was a full buildout with seatbelts for 6, kitchenette and two maybe three dirtbikes in the rear.

Newer Full-size vans are absolutely dope. We’ve run them all over fire roads, but wouldn’t say we really off road them.

I loved passing cars struggling to get up the mountain in big bear driving that Mercedes. Impressive drivability.

    What’s wrong with 5ft bed?

Don’t have a pic, but had a yard of gravel in the box. No issues whatsoever .

Thanks and thanks for the info! Yeah don’t know what she wants, just got lunch together, now she is talking 4Runners. Van makes more sense to me.
Dang! Just rolled 16K and only had the truck 10 months. Guessing another 2-3K when it hits a year old.
