Agree here. I will keep the post updated.
    • 6 days after initial pick up of the truck.
    • No issues noted. No leaks and the engine sounds good. Quiet with no unusual noises.
    • Might even be a little more peppy as it's now running with 6 cylinders with full compression instead of 4.

Actually was going to ask about that also. Any major takeaways now that yours is properly "running"?
Is the before/after difference slight? Or some tell tell signs to look out for?

That sucks. Who’s doing the work? Vann York, Modern or Rice? The shop foreman at Modern is really good if they haven’t looked at it, and you want a second opinion.

Vann York done the work. So far nothing but high praises for them. I bought the truck at Rice due to a price break on a Pro.
I have done business with Modern in Winston. Bought a new 1st gen there. As well as a new Tundra and 4Runner.
Honestly never had a problem with any of the 3 Dealerships.

i wonder if this is caused by prolonged pinging/knocking due to insufficient octane and high cylinder temps. I know they say you can run these trucks on 87, but the ECU clearly has to retard timing a bunch just to get it not to knock on 87. i'd be interested to see if anyone has seen a failure using 91 only.

If anything 87 would have lower cylinder temps. Octane has nothing to do with this.

They'll both be the same if they don't contain Ethanol. But I think its more likely that 87 will have a higher Ethanol content than 93. Ethanol burns cooler than gas and is one of the main reasons it makes more power. But in the end the fuel used isn't causing this.

6 month update. Truck has performed flawlessly. No codes, no leaks. Not a single issue with anything. Hopefully this will be the norm.

Probably more likely for those at very low elevation?

    Update:
I took the truck in for an oil change. Dealership called offering $9.95 oil change. I took them up on it. I had noticed a slight discoloration on the driver's side cylinder head. The side that was changed. Didn't know if was a leak or just oil left on the head getting dirty. I asked them to check it. They checked it. Turns out it's a slight leak.
