My problem is my hobbyist mechanic history means everything I have is smol and mobile.

Now that I'm in an actual shop, I need a real box and much bigger tools

I think that is a good point to @WiscoPat ‘s original post. Buy bigger than you think you need because the collection will inevitably expand over the years. Also a good method to keeping tools organized/5S right from the start is a huge help.

That and creating more of a system that can be expanded easily.

90% certain I'll be going with the US General line from HF - not fancy, but good enough. Plus there are plenty of accessories for immediate and future use.

My small upper/lower craftsmanship setup has been that way for over 20 years. If I change it now I'll never find anything.

I hope it’s made in Taiwan instead of China.
    Just my humble opinion.

Like them. Didn't have any sciatic issues. Feels weird-different. But I am glad I put them in!

I agree with you here. I have had SnapOn boxes and I have had the cheap Craftsman boxes. I bought a Harbor Freight rollaway and it is better than the SnapOn it replaced for only $500. Big, well-built and a bargain... doesn't happen often but a little research yielded a win!

Manufacturer is in China, which I don't like either. Still, it's a consideration.

When I worked in the industry I spent thousands on tools and boxes...money I could have spent elsewhere, as a good set of Craftsman tools in that era was every bit as good, for an apprentice, as the truck tools. Still believe this firmly. Students still run to the bling for 10x the useful return.

There has been discussion at work about standardizing the tool boxes. I'm all for it as long as they are all set up like mine

Not to throw a wrench in the works (metaphorically speaking of course) Knowing your future plans to travel you may want to consider tool sets that are already in cases. A buddy bought a bunch of the Tekton tools a few years back and really liked them. He wanted the cases because he keeps the tools in his more secure basement vs the garage. Handy to take with as well. The downside is having to pull out various cases and then having a place to set them while working.
