I’m pretty happy with my MPGs to be honest. I have winch, bumper, sliders, roof rack, RTT, bed rack and e load 33s. So about 550-600 pounds. I do drive conservatively and easily can get 17-18 in city and 21-22 IF not going faster then 65 or so. When I do mountain passes at like 80-85 going uphill fighting strong headwinds, I get 15 mpgs.

Sorry not finding it, but since it’s a search query it may display different for me because of phone or geographic location, so not sure what sort of response it is.
As far as mpg, my 1500 crew cab sierra with a 5.3 will get 26 mpg interstate with cruise set at 70. Impressive in my opinion. I agree with a lot of theory about why displacement on demand cylinder deactivation or whatever they call that shit these days might be a bad idea, but in practice it seems to be more reliable and cost effective than turbo. I put 200k miles on a 2010 suburban that did 22.5 on the highway and never had a problem other than a quart of oil every 3000.
New vehicles have just gone so much further technologically that I’ve lost faith in them. You guys seen the innards of a 10 speed auto trans ? I’m old school in thought, but have found risk of failure increases with the number of items to fail. Maybe 6-7 years from now when people tell me they’ve never replace a turbo, electric steering rack, electric water pump, high pressure injection pump, 12 speed transmission, etc, I’ll regret spending a few extra bucks on gas.

Thanks! I love this thing man.

I like to get creative when I’m loading or carrying large items.

My truck ends up like that too. The bed gets filled with a lower level of storage bins then more stuff stacked on top of that. Then up to three kayaks and four bikes. It looks like the Cat In The Hat packed it.

CA193DF5-D231-4F0D-8205-4D495E37A989.jpg Man, I’m getting crazy gas mileage in my 2022 V6 SR5 4x2 DCLB. I drive between 65-70mph, almost all highway through Houston.

This is my new record ( granted I’ve only had the truck for about 2 months now)

    30.5mpg!!!!

The vehicles computers are rarely correct. Have you calculated the mileage at the fuel pump?

Yup, since I had to do that with my 2nd gen, and it’s correct. Don’t hate….

Meh, my Durango with the 3.6 v6 was taller and weighted about 1,000 lbs more. Got much better gas mileage than my Taco does, and it had the old NAG1 5 speed auto.

Some of you people get WAY too defensive anytime someone points out one of the Tacoma's shortcomings. Bunch of zealots around here.

Seems like alot of people on this forum feel personally attacked when you mention blatantly shitty things about Tacoma's. Guess they just don't want to feel bad about their purchase so they get super defensive and end up just embarrassing themselves. Taco's fuel economy is a joke, and a 4 cylinder truck is also a joke.

My family has two 3rd gen, both 2022. The fuel calculator computer has been within 0.2 mpg after the first 500 miles.

My vehicle computer has been almost spot on. About .1-.2 mpg optimistic.

Just like humans nothing is perfect. Could build the perfect truck, but it won’t be cheap, plus everyone’s idea of what is perfect is different. My ideal truck isn’t a Tacoma, but it is what I could afford.

My old truck was on its last legs, needed a new one desperately, unfortunate that it decided to go during probably one of the worst times to buy a vehicle, was going to get a Ranger or F150, (don’t really like Tundras) but the Ford was 6-8 months out, Toyota was “only” 5 weeks. Also went with the Tacoma because of the fanatics, also almost didn’t because of the fanatics if you know what I mean. Ranger or Colorado would of been much more under the radar. Resale wouldn’t of been as good.

Long time Toyota owner, no matter what people say, they have their fair share of problems. Will my 3rd Gen be reliable? who knows. Won’t know until it (if it) gets to 200K.

The 4 banger is fine, really wanted that power plant because would assume it is more reliable than the 6. But my wife talked me out of because it would of suffered on the trips I like to do.

The 4 cylinder is a joke because it sacrifices ~80 hp / lbs of torque for a 2 mpg difference. It's made for mass fleet trucks like your local water authority.

Mine is off a bit, plus the center gauge and the informant screen are 1-2 mpg different, which I think is odd.

Last hand calculated tank was .3 better than the computer, splitting hairs though. Going to take a nose dive this Thursday, finally decided to toss on my bigger ATs had laying around and get rid of those wienie stock donuts, get excited! lol!

Yea but they are drastically more reliable than the 3.5.

I drive a 4.0 not the mini-van motor Taco. Is there actual data on the 4 cylinder being more reliable than the V6 when both are serviced regularly? Isn't there a couple members on here with 400k+ miles on their original V6's? Seems like something people say to themselves to cope with their shitty 4 banger putting out less power than a 2002 Toyota Camry lmao.

Edit, like this member and others: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/400-000-miles.404359/
