2.7 has been around for a long time and proved its excellent reliability. I have never seen any 3.5s over the 400k mark lol. You are prob thinking about a 2.7 truck

You never see a blown up 2.7 thread but look how many people are having issues with the 3.5.

Most will agree the 2.7 is the most reliable motor put in a Tacoma in the last 20 years. It might even take the cake over the 4.0

Physics… it is like small bore dirt bikes, they have to scream to get moving and have worse fuel consumption than the larger bore.

…now if that only could of been a 4 cylinder diesel.

That is ok, I like fleet trucks and not much in a hurry these days, nor need all “fluff” that so many soft handed nancies demand. Of course the Tacoma is a chick truck, so there is that. lol! Certainly don’t use the 6 to its full potential. 95% of my driving is done at 50 mph under 1500 rpm. But the handful of times I am towing on the interstate, the wife thought it was a better route to go.

With the performance of these modern BEV's compared to ICE alternatives it's hard not to fanboi.

I would love a 4cyl turbo diesel taco like the Hilux. Too bad the EPA makes it not worth Toyota's time to ever bring it to the states.

Here is numerous 4.0's over the 400k mark. Now you have seen them, just not the mini-van 3.5 motor I guess lmao. Seems like it's more about properly maintaining and caring for the motor than it is 4cyl vs V6.

Really wanted the diesel Silverado half ton, but didn’t want to pay $60K to get it. Hell, didn’t want to pay $40K for the Tacoma, think they are over priced. But the wife told me to quit being a cheap SOB.

I'm comparing the 2.7 to the 3.5 not the 4.0

The 4.0 is irrelevant in this convo. I know they are bulletproof

$40k for a Tacoma was overpriced but not in this market lol. Atleast they hold their value better than anything else on the road, like a rolling savings account.

Yeah I honestly don't know much about the 3.5 motor aside from it being used in the mini-van Sequoia. People claiming the 4cyl is more reliable than the 4.0 V6 always just seemed like people coping to me. The 4.0 V6 is just as reliable as the 4 banger, as shown by the high mileage club.

A Prius is what you want. Or a base model Corolla or civic. With the high savings in gas, you can allow yourself to drive the full size a bit more when you want.

Wanted OTD for $30K, but that wasn’t going to happen because no one makes a bare bones truck anymore.

By the time you add taxes, bullshit fees, a few add-ons, and bought the extended warranty because I don’t trust this new one…it was just shy of $40K. Wasn’t too happy, but happy with the truck since it lessens the worry of “is going to break down again” like the old one did. Piece of mind is priceless.

Narrow trails as well. A full size would have problems getting to some of the places I've been.

Taco wins in a lot of other places if you are looking at the total cost of ownership (OP isn't - he's just focused on power and mileage - and I agree... Taco needs a diesel variant with an ISF2.8 Cummins or similar). If OP was really cost conscious he'd be looking at diesel cost per mile traveled vs gas cost per mile traveled as well. Great that he is getting 18-19 MPG on the highway but he's paying more for diesel. AAA has avg regular gas prices at 3.949 and 5.021 for diesel. He's paying 27% more per mile to drive the diesel. He said he made 18 MPG on the Taco test drive so right there it is costing him 27% less (on average with regular grade fuel) to get similar mileage to what he is getting now.

Some of these people act like you just insulted their child when talking about a Tacoma’s problems.

Same with my truck, +/- .1-.2 when comparing to hand calculation.

Lots of concern trolls on this forum. "Yeah I love it but....................."

They are pretty easy to spot.

Ya know, I'm having a pretty big internal debate on this one. On one hand, I really don't care whether someone else hates the truck or thinks that the Ridgeline is better in every way. On the other hand, some of the complaints that people dream up on here are pretty damn unreasonable.

yes of course its slow/gets bad mileage/is uncomfortable/doesn't offer many gadgets for the money. It's a truck.
