I’m just going to have to chop and swap. Talked to a couple of motor shops and they basically said it’s cheaper to replace the whole pump instead of rebuilding it. Just gotta figure out which pump to go with. I still don’t want to drop $900 on a not very important pump.

If it's something not that important, you can pick up a shallow well pump for $200-$400 easily... Hell a fancy Zoeller is under $500.

Everywhere I was looking was saying shallow well was considered 25’ or less, mines sitting at 33’ so I’d still need at least a deeper rated one. I’ll keep looking around.

33' is a little over 14 psi head pressure it will have to overcome.

Geez. If 33' is considered a deep well, I wonder what the 221' well we had at the last place would be considered.

If you can get the tractor up to the stump, the woodland mills wg24 will remove any stump. I used one about a week ago. 3 maple stumps from 20” to about 6’. Biggest stump took about 2 hours.

I just priced everything out from the big box stores. A new 40-gallon WH will be about $640 for everything, including new valves, drop lines, fittings, and a couple of new tools to make the job easier for the DIY install. Someday I'd like to replace all the 1/2" lines in the house with 3/4 pex, someday, so the tools should be useful again...

We re-piped our house from 1/2” galvanized to 3/4” copper. I honestly thought I’d notice more of a difference than I do. Turning up the well pump was the biggest difference maker for us water pressure wise under heavy use

The biggest reason I want to upsize the pipes is not having enough water pressure/flow to use two fixtures at the same time. It's not a huge issue being here by myself, but when company is over there isn't enough pressure/flow for two showers or a shower and a toilet. I have plenty of pressure coming to the house on a 2" mainline, then 3/4" for about 20' to the hot water heater, but imeadiatly after that, it drops to 1/2".

Have you got a pressure regulator in the house you can adjust?

That’s the same issue we had too. Sucked taking a shower while she was filling the coffee pot and rinsing her dish in the morning! The piping upsize helped some for sure but not near as much as going up to 60psi on the well pump

Did you happen to look at any of the galvanized you cut out? I've seen that stuff so corroded inside that you couldn't see through a 2 foot stick. Just a pinhole meandering through the rust and corrosion. Galvanized was a bad idea for water.

My well sits on about 65PSI all the time...

My house in Washington was like that. I replaced a bunch of 1/2" galvanized pipe with PEX. Virtually every piece I pulled out had severe blockages, it was probably more like having 1/4" pipe on the inside.

It was shockingly not bad but there were only sections of it left, the rest was 1/2” copper so I presume there were some blockages at some point.

Back in tractor related news, I think I’m going to start on my pistol range in the corner of the property next week. I’ve got some old old wood that’s sat outside for too long so I’m going to move the pile and cover with dirt to use as a backstop….after I clear out a shit ton of overgrowth and small trees

Bought one today secondhand off Craigslist. Looks to be in fantastic shape. Very excited to put it to work soon. I’ll reach out if I have any specific questions.
