    Hey everyone,

Appreciate all the great knowledge on here. Need some insight on this.

    Just bought a 2002 Tacoma 2.7 PreRunner 171,XXX miles.

Went to fuel it up yesterday and truck wouldn’t start for about 1 min then eventually did. Previous owner told me he put in new fuel pump

    What could be the issue?

    Thank you in advance.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
To soon to tell. Not enough history on the vehicle.

Does it start in a normal fashion all the other times??

If only when fueling lines hooked up wrong in the Evap System allowing raw fuel into the manifold that needs to clear before it starts.

If all the time with hot starts leaky injectors fouling plugs that need to be dried off while cranking before starting.

something else just a lack of maintenance

A stuck purge valve can cause this. The vapour from the tank can enter the intake and cause a major rich condition.

    Thank you for the reply.

Starts up every single time expect when I fuel. And I’ve probably turned it on and off 7-8 other times yesterday. Was just fine except when I fueled

You can test this theory of a stuck purge by filling and next time it won't start you hold the gas pedal to the floor until it lights off.

Will try this. Do you happen to have the part number or possibly a good alternative to this part?

Lots of toyotas have purge valves with the same ports and electrical connector, the differing part numbers are because of the mounting brackets. I'd take a walk in the junkyard with your purge valve and find a 90s or early 2000s toyota to rob one from.

    Thank you so much.

Not to sound like a noob but where is the exact spot or the purge valve?

    Thank you

Take a good picture of the right side of your engine bay and I can probably point it out

A stuck purge valve should set the MIL and several codes, P0455 at a minimum. Is this a 'one off' situation, as in the problem only occurred in that single instance of refuelling?

Is your MIL (or "Check Engine") light on and is the issue always and only after a refuel?

Swing by any of the major retail parts suppliers; almost all of them will do a code pull at no cost. If you have a P04555, or 0456, the purge valve is a viable candidate.

    No codes came up.

Don’t know if my OBD code reader is messed up.

If your money light is illuminated then there is/are stored codes. First thing is to do is read the codes. They are giving you a clue.
