I think it'll happen well before 2100. That's 78 years. If you think about technology 78 years ago (1944) we barely had jet aircraft and computers looked like this:

Thats just the advancement of technology, that's not the problem, the tech is there. The problem is the construction of a huge electrical infrastructure to support however many gigawatts of energy currently being supported by gasoline.

It's funded and will continue to improve over time.

Why, cause of "funding" that can vanish at the drop of a hat?

I think as solar panel technology and battery technology vastly improve it will move along a lot faster as the goal will be to have that on residential. I'm waiting for home batteries to get better and cheaper before I pull the trigger on them. The solar panels we have so far have been great and cut our bill by 90%.

    Some stuff
It’s funded by whom? The big wigs at PG&E went bankrupt and collected on their retirements. So we the people, tax payers, get caught with the bill? The “grid” for what’s it’s worth it really just some pile of extension cables strewn across the land. Pretty unbelievable it got started in the first place.
