The 20/80 rule applies to just about any place you work. 20% of the people do 80% of the work

Pretty much how it works where I'm at. Although I was told by my manager if something isn't completely fucked let the others handle it and stand back; they need to learn to step up and not depend on me all the time. Tried to do that the other day and the other people completely dropped the ball and I had to bust my ass to get a motor/gearbox on in the short amount of downtime. Luckily one of my co-workers is on sync with me and was doing the other stuff needed...

I've been asked to do a similar thing... the problem is all of our operators have an IQ of 20 or less. End up having five fires to put out with only two guys. I had a doctors appt yesterday morning, at 6:30 am I get a message from the wet boot coworker that he just woke up and will be an hour and a half getting to the mill. (Shift starts at 7...) I just let the cookie crumble and went to my already approved appt while the texts started rolling in.

The term "act your age, not your shoe size" comes to mind...

Perfect example of our production workers IQ. Brand new 36 inch cylinder. They somehow got it jammed out, then drove a board under it. Instead of shutting the conveyor off, they thought adding more boards to the mix would solve it.

I'll ask Pat this too @BananaMan. How much of your jobs is PMs vs repairs?

They won't give us equipment to PM as of recently so that equipment is scheduling the downtime for them...

Well then I see three choices.
    One
Take the shit head off to the side and give him the what for to straighten up and fly right.
    Two
    Take it to HR
    Three
Take the shit head off to the side and give him the what for to straighten up and fly right
and then kick him in the nuts.

95% repairs, like @Delta09 said. Our machinery is making the downtime for them to repair it. Our situation isn't the equipment to do the pm's, it's the time and manpower. We were down all last week for a shutdown, and nobody would grab a grease gun instead of a broom/shovel...
