Thanks for the tip on the Mrs Wages salsa mix.

I have to look for a low sodium salsa mix. The family is on a strict diet.

 

What about a potatoes peeler?

Would it work on tomatoes?

 

Interesting, I never would have thought to use a spice mix for salsa, shoot, I never would have assumed something like that even exists, lol!

I've always made fresh (opposed to cooked) salsas but after looking at this product it makes me interested in perhaps trying a cooked one so it can be frozen and stored. Currently I've just been making simple, fresh salsas with our tomato bounty. I never remove skins or seeds either. Recently I've been straining most of the liquid so it's not so watery then I reduce the liquid I've drained and it basically turns into a tomato juice (kinda like V8) which I use for bloody mary's and red beers.

 

Prob not. Its easier to put them in boiling water for a minute then in an ice bath to stop the cooking.

 

Would I peel the tomatoes skin after the ice bath? Never did this before.

Quarter the tomatoes. I never precook tomatoes before running them thru the processor. Apples and pears, yes, but never tomatoes. Use the largest mesh for tomatoes.
Next week we will be making salsa and spaghetti sauce. Making pear butter this weekend.
I will take pics.

 

We can as much salsa and spaghetti sauce as we can in the summer. Comes out tastier and less acidic than store bought stuff. No it is cheaper too. No need to freeze it. It will be acidic, so it will store well for a couple of years, if you cook it and water bath the lidded jars.

 

Can you take a pic of your largest mesh?

I mean I think I am following you but our largest mesh seems to just make pulpy stuff not nice chunks.

At first I thought it was yogurt.

I use mayo and sugar sometimes with toast if I want to make a sandwich.

 

What is the easiest way to chop onions? I hate chopping onions. My eyes just water.

im trying to learn about aphids.
anyone dealt with heavy root aphid infestation?
do the root aphids spend time above ground too?
attached photo shows mature (2nd year) dandelion root.
new dandelions not affected.
early summer, there would have been 150 of these on every dandelion root.
aphids decimated dill plants.
we had a wet cold spring here. many crop species suffered.
some did well despite.
