Alright I know, this has been covered so many times. But I'm in a different situation than most.
I've got a 2009 tacoma single cab 4x4 5 speed manual, Urd supercharger (220 whp)
I've got upgraded rotors and pads. Frame mounted hitch rated for 5500lbs. 7 way prong and brake controller. Trd pro suspension all the way around. Sway bar/weight distribution hitch.

Ok what's stopping me from exceeding my max towing capacity of 3500lbs to about 4200lbs.

The tow package V6 is rated safe to 6400lbs

Oil and transmission coolers and higher alternator output are the only mechanical differences from what you have now compared to the factory tow package.

Legally your truck is still limited to 3500lbs. Capability wise you’ll be fine towing heavier.

I totally understand that, but if my truck has better pulling power and better brakes than the v6 version that's rated at 6500lbs, why would it be unsafe for me to slightly exceed my towing capacity

Yeah if you have a class IV hitch and a bigger alternator/battery plus the power to pull and stop properly I don't see why there would be a problem. The towing limit is for a stock truck.

Never hurts to over think something that could be a serious safety liability.

Plus I really don't want to buy a v6 tacoma just so I can pull 4200lbs.

It’s not just safety liability, it’s potential legal liability in the event of an accident.

Yeah if you knew you were gonna be towing bigger stuff you should have gotten the V6 tbh. the fuel economy difference is negligible.

What’s stoping you is your ability to stop.
Unless you’ve had a trailer push you THROUGH a stop, you wouldn’t understand.
And it it’s not just stopping either. The trailer can push you THROUGH a turn as well.

I agree but wouldn't trailer brakes and a brake controller help medigate that risk?

Such a cool truck. I wish they made that green and regular cab still.
