I would imagine the same powertrain in the 2023 Highlander refresh will also be the standard option in the new Taco (2.4L turbo 4) - about same horsepower as the v6 but a good amount more torque. This would put it right alongside the 2.3L Ranger/Bronco's numbers. Hybrid version is what I WOULD be interested in but I know that one won't come with a manual so no-go for me.

Uh, that's not 'Unicorn' at all. 2020 SR 4x4 2.7 here. I do the speed limit and let CC do the rest. I easily get 27-28 mpg.

I’m not upset at all. I never said it was a bad engine or that it was not capable of doing its job. A small v8 option would be spectacular and make it almost a perfect truck in my opinion. Something like the aluminum 4.6 that ford used in the older cobra svt. Something around the 300-350 hp mark but it’s not an option so it’s pointless to discuss really. What I did say is… I wish I had a Camry engine powering my truck. Said no one ever. Cause nobody ever has.

The turbo 4 would be much better. If you haven’t seen the torque curve on one, it’s worth checking out. Spoiler alert, it is near flat from 1500ish rpms on.

It would be a good option in the little 2 wheel drive but I have never really been into turbos that much. They seem to come with more reliability issues as they age. I love the Corolla with the inline 3 turbo. That little car looks like so much fun.

Keep holding your breath. Maybe they will offer that in the 4th gen.

I am not Fond of that grill at all. lol

It is a little more subdued on the newer Lexus IS & GS rear-wheel drive.

This is a lengthy video but the guy describes differences between the 2 aforementioned models:

This is tailing back to the question about which model Toyota the 3rd Gen Tacoma engine is installed.

I don’t want a turbo in a truck. They’re fun in a car like a WRX but I don’t want it in my truck. If if pulling my boat up a steep boat launch or pulling down a tree I don’t want to have to rev the motor to the moon to make boost/power.

That’s the point. With almost peak torque available at 1500 rpms, it won’t need to rev.

You do understand that “real truck” engines have turbos and are very reliable? If an engine is designed to be turbocharged (just like semi trucks), they can be just as reliable.
