Ya, all aircraft have them, some faa reg I'm sure. But even on car you used to get volts, oil pressure, and coolant temp. Now you just get the light that comes on to late to prevent damage alot of the time. Still though if its just calculating off of coolant temp, why is there a difference in temp between an engine with and without an oil cooler. Unless the ecm has different programing to compensate? Because coolant temp and trans temp is still the same. Don't think that would be it, and my oil temp stay the same pre an post transmission oil cooler install, which brought temps down 40 or 50 degrees. I think we are missing something.

AT, I have a scan gauge and coolant temp is one of the PIDS I monitor well driving along with Trans temps 1,2 and EOT. I'm just not sure how it gets 280* EOT for me and 180-200* EOT temp for you, if its calculating off coolant temp because both our coolants read 180*-200* and my trans reads 160*-180*.

So this sensor on here is the pressure sensor or "switch".

I use fusion obd2 and the picture is from techstream. Both app use Toyota's PIDs.
I have no experience with scangauge. Perhaps this is the issue.

On my 2nd gen AT with tow package, my app allowed me to output the data points, and yes saw a significant increase while sitting at a stoplight, then a rapid cooling once moving. When towing a 6x12 cargo trailer (empty, 65 mph) from Tucson to Phx, the watched the temps rise to 210 AT and 220 coolant, then bumped down to 4th and watched them both drop precipitously into the 195 to 200 range. I concur, AT with lockup vs slipping creates huge temp differences. I can upload the file or image of the graph if someone wants. Haven't done the same with my MT 3rd gen.

yea that's what i mean. 280 seems on the high side for engine oil. definitely use full synthetic motor oil at those temps.

Need some data from someone without an oil cooler now to see if 260-280 is unusual. I use mobil 1, OCI checked with oil analysis.

i have no idea what normal oil temps are. never really thought to monitor that. just coolant temps. i know, generally, conventional starts to break down at 275 and synthetic at 300-350, but it's different for every formulation.

A little one at the oil filter attachment (that glorious on top of the engine location) and the transmission cooler. Again both small but, more than nothing.

If its like the 3rd gen cooler, its a coolant(antifreeze) to oil cooler, not an air cooler so size isn't that important.

haha! ok that made me laugh - it's a good day. I wasn't going to crawl under my '19 to see if it had the same thing. Sticker says tow package, so I assume it is a part that is similar, even though the oil filter housing is reusable and the filter element is changed. In that case, the if the oil is way higher temp than the coolant it is under significant load, and the cooler isn't keeping up. There's gotta be a SparkFun BT temp module that could be attached to the oil pan and insulated from outside air cooling that would give the pan temp- which is what I would look for since that is getting pumped back into the engine.
