LMAO that's not car wash go back there and raise hell. Fuckers need to fix that shit.

When my paint peeled under warranty I was denied by my local dealership, I complain then they said the Toyota regional rep was coming in and wanted to take a look at it, denied again etc. I go to another dealership and find out the lady wasn't the regional rep and that I was supposed to be talking to the dealership guy who approved the bodywork. So I go there and find out the "regional rep" was some random secretary etc who worked in that part of the dealership. Auburn Toyota did the work eventually. Good body shop, SHIT dealership though.

@Cricket-0 , make sure you document everything that was/will be said and by who (times/dates too) for when this gets escalated to Toyota USA. The way you were treated is absolute bullshit. I'd be making it my mission to get that asshole 86'd from ever working at any Toyota dealership, ever.

YMMV.... I hope things turn for the better on your end.

Local TV channel still do investigative reports?
Nothing quite like watching their lies on the 6-o-clock news with the web link sent to Toyoda Corporate

Such a bummer for the situation and how you were treated. My daughter’s C230 had a sunroof jump the track. I tore the car apart and fixed it. Believe it or not, you have to remove the spare tire in that process. Turns out this failure was a bit of a known thing for that model. It happened again and I tore it apart and fixed it… pulled the power to the sunroof controls at the end of that session.

Out of warranty and I didn’t want to even consider what Mercedes would have charged.

$hit happens. But you shouldn’t be treated like that. +1 for documenting everything with time, names, and relevant quotes. If it comes to corporate dealings or worse, that information will prove incredibly important.

I agree, but what could possibly be the motive for the dealer to do this? They get reimbursed by corporate for warranty work.

Did not read all the replies, but I would be talking to Toyota corporate and inform them what you were told, and ask for your truck to be taken to another dealership.

If corporate agrees with the blame the car wash bull shit, ask for something in writing telling us not to take our vehicles to the car wash.

OP, I'm shocked at the BS and how you were treated. Was he covering Toyota's ass for a defect?

I am really interested to know how this gets resolved.
Warrantying a new truck for something like this should be effortless. It's heartbreaking to see a dealer give a customer grief like this.

Geeezz unless you stuck out an extremity or solid object out the roof when closing ( which would have likely left a mark ) I fail to see how a dealer can blame you...

You can’t blame Toyota for this one, OP has only interfaced with the dealer so far and they are not Toyota.

They get like a 3rd of the actual labor cost when its warranty work. So, out of warranty, an example only ,something may cost 1000, 800 is labor. Under warranty, the laborer will get paid 250.

At this point, it would be cheaper to have a body shop cut the roof off, weld another one on, prep and paint.

I’ve had several friends have this very thing done after bad hail storms. The cost was less than what your being quoted.

Because the job is a PITA and none of the techs are going to want to do it. If their service department is busy they're not loosing any money by not doing the job. You're tying up a tech and a bey for a job you can't upsell more b/s on. The service manager simply doesn't want to have to deal with the headache.

I'm not saying having that attitude is right or good customer service. But they obviously don't care about either, just what's easiest for them.

Warranty pay is pretty bad on things like this VS customer/insurance pay. There’s also less paperwork for a lazy warranty administrator

I do have a sunroof so hopefully it wont give me any issues. I do use use pretty much everytime I drive.

I had a 91 civic si many eons ago with who knows how many miles, I’m sure odo was rolled back, but at least 300k. That thing had no power steering but had power sunroof that was working flawlessly! Good ol Honda, that little go cart was indestructible.

You have a bumper-to-bumper warranty. Period, end of story, that's it. The car wash line is BS, and you didn't hit anything, so it's covered. They have no right to stress you out about this.

Is there a better dealership nearby? I'd take it there if you can (if they haven't taken it apart). I'd have left as soon as the dumbass implied that it's *my fault* for driving it through a car wash - something that most large Toyota dealerships have on the premises.

Also that repair itself sounds suspect as hell... Sure, they have to drop the headliner to repair the sunroof... but the seats? No. Wait a month? Also no.

They're taking you for a ride. Document everything and make sure Toyota corporate finds out about it.
