Loved my 07 ranger. Wish I could’ve kept it, was very reliable truck. Gas mileage was really bad though.

I like my automatic. It's my DD and nice to get in and not have to worry about shifting after a 12+ hr day. I only drive maybe 7500 miles a year so it's perfect for my needs. I test drove a manual and not sure what all the hype is about being is "so much better, much more fun, etc".

To each their own I suppose.

Starting out stock, for now ...
I daily drive my MT and love it! Some off road beach driving a few times a year and hauling a utility trailer for odd jobs or helping friends move and it hasn't been a bother at all. In fact if you look around you'll see threads and articles complaining about the AT gear hunting and you don't have to deal with that in the MT.

Honestly though, it's all preference. I find MT's fun and have only owned them and will for as long as I can. I have friends that love their AT and haven't had any of the issues that others have. Get what makes you smile because that's what matters! :D

People that can't drive a manual tend to pontificate. It always sounds stupid.

Fun is the reason to get the 6MT. If it all came down to pure utility, we'd be in Tundras and Siennas, not Tacomas.

The Ram 2500 and 3500 came with a stick until 2018

I've said the same after having both manuals, and auto toyota 4wd pickups. This gen3 auto is the best so far. Imo, some driver's are just wired different than others. Doesn't mean their wrong.

My 1st vehicle was a 3/4 ton K20 Chevy granny 4 speed, so everything since has been a "short throw" ;). I've put 175k miles on my current 2011 automatic Tacoma and have nearly worn the shifter out slapping it from side to side in and out of OD. I'm on the hunt now for a new 6MT Off Road. Can't wait to have 3 pedals in the floor again for at least another 10 years. Different strokes for different folks, but I'll take a MT any day over an auto.

Had a 2nd gen MT and when I bought my 3rd it was Auto only. I love manual but I was not impressed with the gearbox they used on these trucks. I believe it's the same for 2nd vs 3rd. Weak syncro's and mushy slow shifting. I'm impressed with the auto.

I don't think it was too popular, even my wife thinks its ugly, but after having red, blue, silver/gray toyota pickups for years, and seeing similar ones on the road, i needed to see a change similar like my old 66 gto that i owned back in the day.

^this^. Big difference. 2nd gens ratios get to 1/1 in 5th gear. 6th is the only OD. 3rd gens get to 1/1 in 4th gear. 5th and 6th are OD's. And that's just ratios. The 3rd gen is much smoother shifting, easier to drive. I've owned, and loved both. In very different ways though.

Interesting that driving a simple modern passenger vehicle - or any vehicle would cause anyone “WORRY” these days…

I think they really mean "inconvenienced".

It's too much work to be personally involved with gear selection, as there is so many better things to be doing while steering a vehicle down the road. o_O
