A lot of folks wore face shields :notsure:

Now most don't wear masks and no social distancing....

And a lot more people seem to be getting it. I guess people are becoming tired of the safety measures (I know I am) and are willing to take their chances. Being vaccinated enhances that feeling.

"Viral load" is a big issue. If someone coughs in an enclosed space you get more load than some random breeze in an open space. And virus can be transferred by physical contact so hands tend to get a higher load than airborne, and touching your face the load is greater.

Masks help because a tiny virus is carried in much larger particles that are more likely to be trapped in a mask.

I'm tired of them, too, but I still keep my distance and wear a mask when out and about. Laugh all you want, but especially after hearing the stories on here about how long it's taking to recover (and one never knows what is damaged inside you) I want no part of it!!! I already have heart issues and don't need/want anymore.

I'm not laughing... not even close. Our response to this pandemic, as a society, has been pretty disappointing.

Okay, I think this global warming thing has gotten just a tad ridiculous; today while taxiing to the terminal at Keflavik airport I noticed the OAT on the ground was showing 80°C, which if I remember my conversion formula correctly, works out to something like 176°F. Yeah, Iceland in August rockin' 80°C, not happening.

Here’s a few things I’ve learned about this damn virus. Every Wednesday I have breakfast with a bunch of us old retired guys. Two of the group are retired physicians and very knowledgeable about this coronavirus. They’ve provided us with a wealth of information. Here are some of the things I’ve learned from them -
The virus is so tiny that 500 million can fit on the head of a pin. That is why most masks are mostly useless. The virus goes through most masks like if you took a hand full of sand and threw it at/through a cyclone fence. The only masks that really furnish much protection are the n95 and the kn95. Then they are only effective if they have a snug good fit with no gaps. The blue cloth masks keep out very little virus but are better than nothing.
6’ social distancing has been found mostly ineffective in preventing spread of the virus as various studies have found. It helps but not a lot.
Viral load is key. If you are exposed to a small viral load it is much more likely that your immune system will overwhelm the virus and you’ll either have mild symptoms or no symptoms. If you get a large viral load the virus is more likely to overwhelm your immune system and make you sick. Yes you can get the virus from a surface but chances of that are small. It is 90++ percent airborne spread virus.
Vaccines are complex in the way they work. It’s been explained to me in detail but it’s too complex for me to adequately explain here. I wouldn’t do a very good job. Suffice it to say they basically rev up the immune system to overwhelm the virus and reduce viral replication. Antiviral Paxlovid also works to reduce and stop viral replication. The data though is off the charts that the vaccine reduces symptoms, even prevents symptoms, keeps you out of the hospital, and reduces death.
The current variant going around per my personal physician and the docs at breakfast is the most contagious yet. They think most of the US population have been or will be exposed to it, may or may not get symptoms depending on numerous factors including vacs status, viral load, strength of your immune system and so on. Well I’m done.

Thank you!! With 14 rods to my arsenal I can tackle most anything and not yet crazy enough to go after giant saltwater game. That’s more of a gym workout in my book… lol… I do have a fondness for ocean returning trout called Steelhead here in the PNW. Yes, all my flies are hand tied by me, we have a saying amongst my fishing friends “the best flies are the ones you can’t buy”

I enjoy coastal drainages from N Cal to Northern BC, depending on spring thru winter runs. But in my later years Steelheading in shorts can’t be beat… not sure if that’s getting spoiled or just old.. lol

Duley noted and precaution's will be taken. Last time I was in MI I came home with Pneumonia. It was the start of my health problems for the last 10 months. The last two weeks have seen the resolution of most the problems.

My wife's family lives in Detroit, Clarkston and Melford MI.

Greg: Welcome to the porch. Off to the eye doc this morning. I am hoping to obtain a prescription for reading glasses. Then off to MI in the afternoon.

Good morning fellow Porchatonians! Feeling better every day - but still tested positive this morning. One more day of the Paxlovid left to finish. Lynn is still symptom free - good news there.

    Stay safe out there!!

    Morning all:
Steelheading in shorts sounds much better than when I targeted them in NY, it was freezing!
I don't fly fish, I had started to get into it many years ago and left a creel lay with all my flies in it, when I went back to where I left it after about 20 min. or so, it was gone, and that was the end of my fly fishing! :( I had purchased those flies from local fly tiers who had been doing it for years and were pretty good at it, when that creel got picked up it just left a sour taste in my mouth!
I do dabble around with tying some jigs and tails on shad darts, but that's about it.

:pccoffee: Good Morning Porch Pals & Gal! And welcome Fred! After getting everything done yesterday, it's a day off I guess. An errand, some putz, and wait for the rain with my fingers crossed. I watered all the plants and the yard (watering day), so I guess I could wash the vehicles....

Just got caught up with all the string trimming, FOR NOW, probably need to mow at least 1-2 more times before it's time to call it quits.

Good late morning all. It saddens me to hear that many of you and your families are getting hit with COVID. I hope you all can feel better and very soon. Please take care of yourself so you don't end up in the hospital or with long term effects.

All my kids and their families caught it in the last 6 months. Even my daughter-in-law at 5 months pregnant got it. It was rough. My wife and I haven't caught it - yet. I'm thinking it's just a matter of time. I'm not hyper cautious but have upped my hygiene game a little out in public. I don't wear a mask anymore unless I'm asked to in a hospital, doctor, or dentist office. Both my wife and I along with my friends and family are all believers in vaccines. No one has grown a tail or 3rd arm. I will go back to a mask when my grand-daughter is born for the first little while.

I hope you all get better. Have a good rest of the day.
