Has anyone painted the emblems, I got the chrome emblems and I want to paint them black matte… what will be the best paint and is there a clear coat that will keep the matte look on them?

Best paint would be automotive/urethane. You'll want to either sandblast or chemically remove the chrome first or it's not going to hold up long-term. Any matte/flat clear will work, but you pay for what you get.

I realize your question is not gen specific, but maybe someone in the 2nd gen forum has done this...

^^^^ Yes, get them pre-made. They stick right on top of the chrome ones and you don't have to worry about the paint chipping. I got them in cement. Perfect fit and match.

Plastidip will eventually crack in the sun and is a PITA to remove if you didn't remove it before then

^ Yup I first Plastidipped (spray can) my grill emblem, didn't last that long here in the hot SoCal sun. Then I sanded/scuffed up the chrome plating, sprayed it with Rustoleum flat black, it's been holding up fine for years now, no clear on top.

I originally wanted to paint it with SEM Trim Black but didn't have it at the time. Plan was to repaint it with the SEM TB when needed but the Rustoleum has actually been holding up for a lot longer than I expected.
