Yeh the new waiting in line is 'pre ordering'. Locking an EV into the lowest price now is pretty smart.

 

The inflates to full size is the weird part. Is it a pool float? A tire generally takes up about the same space inflated as deflated.

 

I know, I used one so long they started to come back into fashion.

 

They fold/roll up to be more compact.

 

Or you could just buy a comparable size gas vehicle for half the price and get it now. I would call that more smarter.

Maybe smarter but not as fun. You also won’t find a truck with the interior quality or speed of a Rivian for half the price.

 

Well except you sit inside your house and can get a refund anytime you want. It's not a pre-order, but a reservation. You can cancel and get a full refund. And because i put my reservation in before the price change and tax credit change it saved me about $25,000 vs buying one new right now (~$17,500 in price change and $7500 in tax credits for getting it this year vs next year) . So if that makes me "one of those people" I'll gladly take it.

Can you charge all 3 at home? Does your electric service able to handle simultaneous charging? That could be 100 amps alone. BUt the savings of home charging compared to gas is substantial.
