What’s everyone’s thoughts on the Gen 5’s? All I’ve ever had has been Gen 3’s. Thinking about picking up a Gen 5 g17 and getting it milled for my Holosun 509t x2.

Never liked them. All I shoot are Gen 3s.

    I'm personally a fan of G5 over G3

I used to think I liked the finger grooves but have since grown to prefer the lack of them

I also like the front slide serrations

Better than the gen 4 and an actual improvement over the gen 3. Slightly more defined break on the trigger but its still a glock trigger. Improved some long term reliability issues that the gen 3 guns can have. I also prefer the gun without finger groves.

If it wasnt for contracts and CA, glock would not make the gen 3 anymore.

Definitely nice. An improvement over the Gen 3s (sure, it's an opinion).

Look for a G17 gen5 MOS - cheaper than getting your slide milled.

I was a gen3 all the way in guy until I got a gen5 G19mos. I liked enough to get a G45 and now just a plain gen5 G19 to me the trigger is better and without the finger groves I find that I have a better grip on the pistol straight out of the holster that’s just my .02 cents my Gen3 G19 hardly ever comes out of my safe anymore o_O

I have run 3s, 4s, and my current 5. If you leave them all stock, the gen5 has the best stock trigger of the all three. If you're a tinkerer, build off a gen 3 frame. You will have MANY more options.

Better barrel, slightly nicer trigger and front serrations. G5 for sure.

I tire of saying this on this forum but there's a dude on reddit who will mill for 509T and with cerakote come to just over $100. He's fast as fuck boi (INSERT MEME HERE) too.

what didn’t you like about them?

All my Gen 3’s have had the finger grooves removed and I like it much better as well.

It’ll keep a stock trigger for a while but will eventually get replaced.

if I was just mounting an rmr or something I probably would get the mos but the 509t is a chonky boi so I want it milled as low as it can go.

    thanks for the info

Trigger would be the only thing I change internally, I leave everything else alone.

I’ve seen you recommend him plenty and that’s actually who I’ll be getting to cut this slide. Thank you for sharing his website.

Sent the slide off Monday and they received it Wednesday morning. I got tracking number notification today for it to be mailed back to me. Should have it by Tuesday hopefully :spy:

So my 1st Glock was a 27 .40 and has been my daily cc since. Last year, I picked up the Shadow System MR920 Elite in 9mm as night stand piece and I’ve also been eyeing the Century AP5-P MP5 clone for a while (also 9mm). Thinking I want to move to all 9mm. Are the .40 to 9 barrel conversions reliable enough to trust my life to for cc? Or should I just sell/trade the 27 for a 26? The Sig365 and Helllcat have also caught my eye. What’s TW say?

Some folks over the years across the internet report issues with the conversion barrels and say you need to replace some frame internals too

That wasn't my experience but I did not shoot my conversion a lot...maybe 500 or so rounds before I ended up selling it

I would personally prefer a factory pistol such as the 26 or 365

I wouldn't trust a conversion for self defense. The 40 and 9mm extractors are different sizes. You might also need a lighter spring.

Full disclosure I haven't finished my conversion yet (waiting on a barrel from KKM) but from everything I read across multiple forums this is dead on. The extractor is highly recommended and recoil spring is a maybe.

I also wouldn't want to carry a conversion for self defense (even if I knew it was reliable) just because I wouldn't want to have to explain it to a jury if it came down to it. I'm mostly building mine as a range toy after I lucked into a gen 4 G23 at a really good price. So of course like a genius I spent enough on a conversion that I probably could have just bought a gen 5 G19.
