OK, So I promised an update on my initial review. So here it is with several hundred miles(some in Mountains with very heavy load.
and I can say this about it compared to the KDMax Pro (NOT XT).

    Truck= '19 DCLB/AT, 2" lift, stock gears, 265/70/17 Ultraterrain tires, Leer 100R camper shell.

-There is difinitely more low end torgue, even in 5th and 6th.
-The spicy throttle is not as "sharp", maybe more like medium or light on KDmax?
-Shifting is way smoother, almost unnoticable. It definitely does better on the highway as far as torque and shifting are concerened.
-Hard Acceleration is more linear and predictable in that it doesn't have the low and high power spots that KD Max has. Even though KD was a big improvement from stock, OTT is better. It pulls just as strong or stronger.
-I have noticed a 2 +/- mpg improvement over KDMax as well during normal driving.

Areas that are more personal taste:

-Shifting is where it may divide opinions. It shifts more like stock in that it will upshift to an appropriate gear while cruising, but it will immediately downshift with hardly any input when needed, and to the correct gear- and almost unnoticeably. Whereas KDMax seems to hold gears at higher rpms, even when not needed. That isn't to say the wild shifting is back , rather it shifts appropriately, like it should have from the factory. It holds gears like it should. The improved low end torque is a perfect accompaniment to this.

Here is the part that will likely make up your mind: If I were to give them any categorization, I think I would say that OTT is more of the off road/ working/ heavier truck tune(more torque), and KDMax is more of a sporty tune(higher shifting pionts, touchy throttle). Both tunes are better HP, but OTT is a Big improvement in low end torque.

Again, This is only compared to KDMax Pro, and NOT the XT version.

Side note: I took my truck up to Neon KY From East TN last week packed full of water, and equipment, and it cruised right along. Yes, it downshifted on those Kentucky and Virginia hills through the pass, but it did it like it is supposed to. With about 800lbs. of extra weight(passengers included), I got over 18mpg- no kidding! 21 gallons over 385 miles round trip.

Nice write up. Interesting how some tunes “fix” gear hunting at the expense of proper shifting. Sure, the truck no longer hunts gears, but it’s also not in the right gear at the right time on many other tunes. OTT definitely has something special going with their shift logic. Have you tried the OTT Sport/Tow mode in ECT?

I used it in the hills with a fully loaded truck. I have not really given it much time driving around normal mode yet. I did like how it gives it more juice under load and on hills.

Nice. Be curious to hear what you think after more drive time. Play with the ECT Sport/Tow mode a bit. The increased throttle and altered shift logic keeps things ready to party in ECT.

This happens all of the time with this tune. Stock, except for factory cover on back and TRD CAI. Some stop and go highway traffic because of heavy traffic and speeds of 60-85 with the average of 70 give or take when traffic was actually moving.

@RedLantern here with Paradise Mobile Tuning LLC on Oahu island in Hawaii. Wanted to share this with everyone here.

OTT isn't just "load a canned file" organization. We are capable of doing Custom Calibrating with a level of precision no one else in the Toyota Tuning game can!

Wrapping up this Custom Turbo 2013 X-
Runner. For this setup up, a Custom Calibration was built from the ground up by Overland Tailor
-OTT developed by Overland Tailor Tuning

Here is a Review from my brother Jet and some info on his Setup. Unfortunately he doesn’t have a TW Handle but has been following the threads here. We worked on his Xrunner that now has my old Turbo Kit that used to be on my 06 prerunner.

    Tuning review
An opportunity came up to buy my brother's (@RedLantern) old turbo kit for my 2013 X-Runner from @Kamshaft2142. I had to do a lot of modifications to the kit and also the heads to make it work because the manifolds were made for pre SAIS trucks.

Turbo on the X is a Big A$$ Borg warner S366 and fuel system consists of an AEM 320 pump and FIC650 injectors.

Now for tuning. My brother and I are in Hawaii, and he collaborates with Overland Tailor Tuning, to tune all the Tacomas here. I come from building and tuning turbo LS stuff using HP tuners and SPEED DENSITY! I don't know crap about tuning Toyotas and MAFs, especially with any sort of forced induction.

Both John @Boltripper and Justin @JustDSM at OTT were involved in tuning. Also, turbo Tacoma's are rare, but they knew what they were doing to get it tuned!

They got the fueling dialed in (fuel trims were within <5% with 650cc injectors) through the RPM ranges and at idle, closed loop for regular driving, open loop for boost tuning (lambda was like .77-.78 @ 7.5 psi of boost), NO Check Engine Lights (No Cats, SAIS delete, etc.) NO rev hang and NO surging either. Also because of my large turbo, there was a bunch of turbo lag. After the final "SPICY" tune, damn lag is gone, lol.

What I appreciated is the time they take to look at each datalog and make the needed adjustments for my custom application. I've seen in the LS world where shops will send you a loaded cookie cutter tune on a PCM, install PCM in your vehicle, send your old PCM back, and that's it. I'm so very happy with the way my truck drives!

I wanna thank both John and Justin of OTT for their Awesome Custom Tuning!!! I also wanna thank my brother James for all his Tacoma knowledge and his patience with me on this rare build!!! Also shout out to @deeezy for coming in clutch for having his stock airbox to help trouble shoot.

Thanks for posting up @RedLantern on the XRunner. Fun project to work on and be a part of.

Wonder how it would stack up against the Harrop Tundra we did a few days ago as part of a remote session. It's always a pleasure and so rewarding to do custom projects that go beyond your typical bolt on truck.

I have a VFTuner license, is there a way to just buy the tune files? I’m taking my truck on a road trip and would like to tune it first but time is a bit of a crunch.

    Absolutely!

Send an email to info@overlandtailor.com and let John know you'd like to buy a tune pack for your vehicle. He'll be more than happy to get you setup for your trip.

Astroturfing is not tolerated here. You know who you are and that’s all I’m going to say.

Yea that would be interesting. I’ll ask him if he wants to run it on a dyno to see what it puts down. I’d like to see what it looks like compared to when it was on my truck.

Absolutely, the files are just about ready for release. We'll be sure to notify you as soon as we've got them available for your '21. We're certainly excited for it to become available.

The staff here on TW have come to an agreement that all major tuning threads will remain locked for a while. Why you ask? We get endless reports and messages regarding tuners bickering with other tuners or other unacceptable behavior. We are sick and tired of the immature actions and this is the last straw. The threads will be unlocked in one week. If there is ONE more instance of bickering, shitting on a competitors thread, or any more reports, we will remove all tuning threads and block it from future discussion. This is the last chance.

Side note: BST rules still apply to tuners. Don’t join TW just to peddle your tunes without actively participating in the community or you will find yourself banned.
