Looked under my taco this morning and found the smaller clamp on my right side outer axle boot managed to pop off and is spinning freely on the shaft. Not to mention some grease has seeped out and got flung around on some suspension components, awesome.

After spending a few minutes wiping everything off (super fun), I yanked the old clamp off and replaced it with a heavier duty hose clamp. The 1-3/8 size hose clamp was pretty much a perfect fit.

I went ahead and replaced the other side as well as a preventative measure. The rest of the boot clamps seem pretty well contained by thick rubber lips on the edges of the boots. It's just these two with very little rubber to grab.

I definitely would prefer this does not happen again. If it happens to any of y'all it's an easy fix but a messy cleanup.

    I’ve done that before.
    Not on a Tacoma though.

People said it could potentially cause a vibration.
I never felt a vibration, I don’t think there is enough weight there to cause one anyway.

    Good job on the fix:thumbsup:

This fix... It does usually work just fine for many years to come. However, it's still not advised, because hose clamps have a tendency to mar up the material under them. Which, if you haven't guessed, can lead to the boot tearing. Again though, 99% of the time it's fine.

If you're concerned, you can find hose clamps with sleeves. Additionally, you can also pop the rubber jacket off of an adel clamp and wrap your hose clamp in it. Or you can sleeve the clamp band with a bit of heat shrink. Snug it up then use a heat gun to shrink it tight. I've done both in the past for various applications but the adel clamp rubber will crack if exposed to UV over long term so bear that in mind.

I made sure not to crank down too hard on the clamps so hopefully that won't be an issue. Although, it might be worthwhile to insert some material between the clamp and rubber boot. That material will probably end up being gorilla tape haha

If you can get them tight enough stainless steel zip ties look close to the oem type clamps... just a thought.

People think the slight moment caused by the screw is gonna cause vibration? I am skeptical, to say the least.

You can actually buy the OEM type clamp you'll need to buy horizontal cutters to pinch them. The hose clamp with work fine if you really are concerned about vibration use two 180 degrees apart.

I was too. And I had no vibration.
I’ve seen wheel with more dried dirt and mud on them that weight more than a clamp.
