    Hey guys,

I just got this little thing the other day and now digging through it and planing what needs to be fixed and serviced. Its a 2WD Auto 2.7.

Here is some pictures. One of the coolant leak I think is obvious that its a Coolant bypass line.

Other leak/leaks are what I am thinking maybe front main seal? hoping its not front cover seal. I hear that one is a pretty involved process. I am pretty good with tools. Let me know what you guys think. I will also try to clean it and see if its more clear where its coming from.

That’s a pretty good leak. It looks like engine oil.

I’d take engine degreaser and wash the engine down.
You need to clean off as mush as that oil as you can, then add dye to the oil.
Wait a few week or days depending on how bad the leak is, and look for the leak.

Dried coolant, thats what Toyota pink coolant looks like when it seeps out and dries.

A tricky thing about leaks is gravity. Look at the highest thing that's wet first. I've seen guys change an oil pan gasket because it's wet, but something above it leaked, gravity caused the oil to run down and settle all over the oil pan gasket. So soon after, it'll be wet again. I'll change the valve cover bolt grommets, later the oil pan will look dry.

The dye & uv light is a good plan.

Coolant bypass needs to be replaced with Toyota upgraded part.

As far as the oil, with 227K on a 2005.... That looks like the front timing cover may need to be resealed. Id degrease the hell out of it and add some Autopro oil dye.

My 2005 had 240k on it and the front timing cover leaked on that same exact side just below the valve cover. It is a very time consuming job, but plenty of write ups on here.

What causes it to change state like that?

The water evaporates and leaves the components that make it coolant, behind.
Kind of like if you left a glass of Mountain Dew out long enough to turn back into syrup.

Evaporation loses all the Liquid Component and leaves the solids as a white/pink residue.

All cleaned up. It also looks to me that front timing cover was resealed at some point by previous owner. Maybe he didn’t do a good job. We will see where the fresh oil will be coming from.

I know this is an old post, but did you ever resolve this? I am noticing a buildup in a similar place, but nowhere near as bad.
