Looking at possibly purchasing this 2001 Tacoma DCSB 4x4 with only 62k miles. The dealer is asking 24999 but haven't started negotiating yet. It's a two owner vehicle from Arkansas with clean carfax. The dealer got it at auction and said it was sitting outside and the sun beat down on it pretty well. So at some point before he bought it they repainted it but not sure from where. Otherwise new tires, headlights, grill, and taillights. Here's some pictures of the frame and truck. What do you guys think? Oh also weird thing it has leather seats! Don't see that too often.

Totally worth it if that frame is as clean as it looks. Is it a Toyota dealer? West coast that would go for 30k

For $28,000 to $32,000 you could have a brand new tacoma..... not sure if that much would still be in your budget

Ya that's what I was thinking. Only thing worried me was if it's a cheap paint job may not last. And no real records on the carfax except for an oil change here and there.

Ya I actually hate the new Tacomas. 1st Gen has been my true love since HS. Had two single cab versions. 2nd Gen was good but 3rd gen probably one of the worst driving trucks I've ever driven. That engine/tranny problem is no joke at elevation. But ya that's the sucky party paying high price for the classic 1st gen.

from the pics- I would agree with the other folks it looks good for being a 20 year truck and the mileage is pretty low. it all depends on what you want to do with it.
Im sorry if I came across bit harsh on my prior comment

Ya, I would almost be tempted to buy it and resell. Arkansas it's whole life this sold to a small ma and pa dealer in the upper north westish.

No harshness noted. But I totally agree. I tend to go through vehicles like water since my 2004 single cab Tacoma Prerunner ha ha. Had that for six years. Since then 2nd Gen Tacoma, 3rd Gen Tacoma, 1st Gen Tundra, Ford Ranger, Jeep Gladiator, and Ridgeline. Jeep Gladiator has far been my favorite vehicle for off-roading and modding but had to sell with my commute and that Rubicon price is no joke. Currently driving the non fun Ridgeline but honestly fits the bill perfectly for what I need it to be right now. Though trying to find a way to shave a few dollars so we can get my wife into Jeep for off-roading ha ha.

I wouldn't pay anything over 10K for a Tacoma. Could easily build something better for the same price.

As in high mileage 1st gen with 200/300k miles and maybe not as clean frame?

Low mileage Tacoma isn't great. Twenty year old dry seals need replacement

Nonsense. If it’s a Toyota dealer selling it I’m sure it’s been gone thru.

I'd rather buy low and replace with custom vs 20k for old OEM.

I'd put money on my $2000 84 4runner having less troubles than that Tacoma.

I understand where your coming from but a 2000 84 4runner could have four times as much issues as the Tacoma. New frame for the 4runner, new engine, new tranny, replace diffs.

Looks like a fine truck but yea since you don’t know much about the service history you could reasonably expect to spend a bit of coin on the usual 1st gen after-purchase items (bushings, fluids, ball joints, timing belt, etc).

There’s probably nothing wrong with it. Leave it up to the price you’re comfortable with paying, and factor in some cash for afterward if things do come up.

Market seems to be cooling off rapidly so hopefully you can negotiate a good price. Clean truck, no rust, 1st gen best gen as they say.

Hypothetically. Fact is I paid $ 2k and less than $10k I could easily do what a Tacoma could do and still have money to burn before I pay what this stock Tacoma costs.

I'm confused do you have a problem with the 1st gen Tacoma itself ha ha? 4runners are just as expensive for a nice clean one. I can find a lot of Tacomas that need a lot of work also.
