alright, got a ticket for nonfunctional tail lights...I need to get this fixed. Brakes, turn, reverse, and lights in front all work, but tail lights and plate lights don't work. I have determined that those are connected to green wire. They all come together under the vehicle by the trailer hitch, however, there is an additional wire that comes from this bundle that appears to be cut off and is very short (see image). Is this where the main wire is supposed to be feeding the tail lights? Can someone please check theirs and see if yours is different from mine?

Thanks! really hope I can get this fixed without paying a shop to dig it apart.

Someone has modified that tailight circuit. Here is what it should be like.

Yeah, someone used those cheap scotch lock taps.
You need to undo that mess and start fresh.

Sorry man. The last guys didn’t do you any favors.

Do you have a towing package with the round trailer connector or do you have just the 4 wire flat trailer connector added in with a converter box.

If you have the converter box and 4 wire trailer connector. Remove it and fix the existing wires as per print. Then you can get a new trailer adapter if needed.

I don’t know what he has, but brown is commonly the tail lights on trailers.
I don’t know what the yellow wire is going to. As that is usually a turn signal wire.
Or maybe it’s white? Either way, we and OP need to know what is what and where it’s going.

the "yellow" wire is white and it goes directly to the trailer wiring. I don't have the towing package, and I have cut off the connector for the trailer anyways as it was corroded. The thick brown, white and green all go to what was the 4 pin trailer wiring plug

Undo that blue connector and pull the unused wires out.
White is typically ground. Why it’s connected in a junction with the others is unknown to be.

Pull the connector and wires. See what happens.

Flat four connector trailer side is as follows.
    White - ground, Brown - marker/park lights, Green - right turn/brake, Yellow - left turn/brake.

Op please post a picture of the socket you plug the trailer lights into, need to know what your truck has. Also are you sure the trailer is not at fault? I dont like how your vehicles wiring looks but in my experiance often the trailer wiring is the issue.

OP cut the connector off. He’s passed that point.
He needs to remove the unused wires. Then go from there.

Volt meter set to ohms will tell him what’s what.

sorry, picture isn't clear, the thicker wires (white/yellow, brown, green and white - which isn't pictured) are not connected to the greenish blue ones with exception to the brown one which is spliced into one of the green ones.

If I separate the wires from the glue and test them with the multimeter, red to green wire and black to truck frame, will it tell me if I am getting voltage coming from each? (I am NOT an electrician by any means)

I can post pictures of my wiring harness tomorrow, what area is your picture taken from? It should be noted that I do have the towing package if that changes this wiring harness.

Some one added a 4 pin is what it looks like.
I don’t know that the 7 pin would help any.

And FWIW, the diagram for the 7pin is on the front flip cover where you plug the trailer lights in.

I think my next step would be to dig into the harness and find the green wire where it comes from the front and check it there.
