So… I’ve been stuck on this issue for a while and now I’m finally here seeking help. I have a 2005 4.0L 5 speed auto tacoma that keeps stalling on bumps, upwards hills, hard acceleration and is hard to start when parked on hills (nose up). I had a couple codes for ckp sensor come up, but it has since been changed. And it only stalls when going uphill in drive (I can climb pretty much anything in reverse) so this made me think that it has something to do with some sort of fluid level being low, but oil is topped off gas tank is full and tranny has been drained and refilled properly so I changed the fuel pump and filter, checked battery connections and grounds, shook all the wiring while truck running to make it stall with no success, cleaned MAF and throttle body. So far nothing has made a difference. Next up is the fuel pump relay because it seams to me like a not getting fuel issue. Btw there is no power loss or bogging, it just cuts off and issues started shortly after engine rebuild. What do you guys think???

So it just cuts clean off.
    No missing or nothing.

Puzzling. Loose battery terminals? A connector not snapped in good? Gigantic janitor key ring? Dunno.

Are you still getting any codes? If so what code number(s)?

It sometimes turns off and back on 2-3 times before stalling, but 90% of the time it just cuts off. And as for the codes, I got P0335 and P0339 a bunch of times witch are related to the crankshaft position sensor (ckp), but now they don’t seem to pop up anymore after clearing them a bunch of times and the sensor is. Brand spanking new

Yes I did! Turns out I had a bad engine mount and I think they are part of the ground system (engine to frame) so anytime the engine moved, it lost ground and cut out. You could just run an additional ground to do a test

    J. Wobbler, I have similar problem. I had engine rebuild, OEM spark plug, Mass Flow Sensor, clean throll body, new oil, and truck stalls when accelerating up over-passs on highway. Toyota twice checked it and can not find codes. (note:correction, engine light and traction light were on but REPLACE GAS CAP and light off) Can anyone help. J. Wobber I do not know much about engine, can you explain more. Thanks

I have no idea what is "Good Mount", can you explain, dealer replace gas cap and I notice little change on acceleration, but after I came home it was scanned and PO456 code appear; I still have difficulty with acceleration. Thanks

Motors have usually 2 motor mounts, one on each side.

    I’m not believing the story,
I’m not a motor mount expert but I think they all have cushioning so the engine doesn’t vibrate the frame. Also, I’m pretty sure the Tacomas have multiple ground wires attached to the engine. If a bad motor mount is causing the engine to not be grounded, then they could have simply attached a wire from the engine to the frame or body. I’d find a different shop.

I borrowed a car that had a loose transmission mount. If you accelerate too hard from a stop the engine would lurch forward, the fan hit the shroud, the throttle cable got pulled. So it would be floored making a horrible noise until you turn the ignition off, fun.
