So I’ve been throwing around the idea of building a custom side by side from the ground up. I’m wanting it to be pretty versatile on the farm, able to take mudding and rock crawling. I thought it would be really cool to get a totaled out Tacoma trd with the 4.0 and then putting the motor, trans, and 4x4 gearbox in the side by side and then swapping out extra trim pieces that my personal sr5 dosnt have in it.

    so my questions are…

do y’all think it’s a good idea to build the side by side with the same power train as the truck?

And do you think it would be possible to gear it down enough so that the top speed of it is like 80 mph and it also has loads of torque and can crawl really slow?

I’m not really familiar with motor names, what did that come in?

I always thought a surplus gama goat would be a great farm runabout. Aside from the atrocious maintenance issues.

Is that the reliable one from them, I know they had one that was really good and then some that were not good at all

I didn’t even think about diesel, what about the new turbo charged 4 cilinder Cummins crate motor

Yeah the maintenance is why I was wondering about the 4.0, the Toyota 4 cylinder would be easer but I herd it isn’t as reliable as the 4.0

The m57 is a badass diesel. Have one in my wife’s 335d, deleted tuned etc and that bitch absolutely screams.

That's a good question. I don't know, I thought the 2.7 would be a great little cart motor.

I guess the real question becomes what powerplant it should be vs what you can actually get your hands on when the build-out starts.

Sounds like a fun project. Subbed.
