Installing 6112's along with Freedom Off-Road UCA's in front, 5160's along with an Icon 1.5" add a leaf in the rear.

Would a standard alignment shop be ok after the install or do you recommend a off-road/4x4 shop?

    Thanks in advance.

I’ve order the 6112/5100 combo but with 700# springs to accommodate a winch bumpers additional weight.

Does anyone thing the front will be too stiff? Should I be able to maintain at least 2” in front? Thanks

I have 6112 with 700lb springs, camburg UCAs, a relentless fab front bumper and RCI skids. No winch at the moment. 5160’s and OME medium load leaf pack in the back. With a BAMF high clearance rear bumper and full size 35” spare in the bed.(I’m thinking of doing the add a leaf to convert it to the heavy lid lead pack). Truck rides firm, but IMO not stiff at all. I’m very pleased with the ride quality on and off road. Where I’m at in Texas, there’s a lot of old caliche/dirt roads that are cratered to hell, and the truck eats up the rough terrain just fine. It’s also very well mannered on road. Hope that helps.

Bilstein does not warranty or recommend 700# springs with the 6112’s. It’s too much spring for the valving. I know everyone likes to say ride quality is subjective but 6112’s would ride like shit with 700# springs. Toyotas with 700# springs ride like shit. It’s just too much spring for the weight of the vehicle even with 200-300# hanging off the front. Everyone is so concerned about ride height instead of trying to make their truck drive properly and the answer always seems to be more spring. If ride height is your primary concern, so be it but don’t lie to yourself and think 700# springs will ever ride well.

The advice I was given was to read some yelp reviews and see what others say about the shop. Then call them. Any shop you find that seems like they can do it, search for here on Tacoma World. The shop I went had 3-4 reviews on here as well as reviews on Yelp from lifted Tacoma owners.

    Here is why:
    • Many shops will ignore your lift and lookup the factory settings and then just set them to that
    • The shops you are looking for will know the factory settings won't work and will tweak them accordingly
Another bit of advice I was given was to find someone with a very similar setup to yours and copy there settings over and bring that to the shop. Easier said than done.

Luckily I live in a densely populated area and had dozens of options, quickly narrowed it down to 2-3 shops then called each one, explained my setup, and went with who I was most comfortable with.

My local discount tire shops don't do alignment. That is another option since they have no skin in the game. Ask them who they recommend locally for alignment on Tacomas with a lift.

This is absolutely correct! I originally went to a shop that was only concerned with getting it back to "factory specs". I couldn't get out of the parking lot without a tire rubbing worse than when I got there. They refused to change anything because as far as they were concerned they did it right and there must be something wrong with my truck. They totally ignored the new coilovers and new upper control arms. What a horrible experience that was.

Appreciate the advice and review of your setup!

I have a SSO Slimline bumper (Versa) and it is supposed to add about 60# to front without winch or light. I figure approximately 120# or so when fully equipped. I also have RCI sliders about 100# additional.

Everywhere I’ve researched the popular opinions is at least 650# needed to carry weight and maintain 2” to 2.5”. All Pro engineers recommended the 700#. Hope their right.

Thanks for the advice. I have narrowed it down to a couple of specialty shops.

Not sure if there’s a better forum to field this question, and forgive any ignorance in my terminology, but if a person is putting in new suspension (6112, RXT pack, 5160, SPC UCA) are there any bushings or anything of the like that should also be swapped out for new while the trucks apart?

Nope, every bushing that you would deal with when taking apart will have new bushings on the new parts already. UCA,lower front shock bolts, leaf packs, and I guess you could say the upper bolts for the rear shocks.

So I have a 2006 4x4 ACLB 4.0 and JD Fab control arms showing up this week. I currently have 5100s and stock UCAs, skid plate and stock bumper. I plan on building my own tube front bumper in the future but cant decide if I'll just be good with 600lb coils or should I just get 650s? In the rear I have 5100s with RXTs, hammer hangers and will eventually be doing a 12" shock relocation. I have an aluminum rack, a 95lb tent and a spare 32" wheel/tire.

Also having an access cab, I keep seeing that I think the 4/3 setting is the highest I can go? Is this right? Can anyone with an access cab give me some insight?

I'm running higher driver's side 9/7. I've ridden passenger a few times to test that theory and couldn't tell the difference.

Consider the ECGS needle bearing replacement. Some do it, some don’t. I’m gonna do it once I get my lift, as inexpensive insurance against potential vibes.
