Ironically. The production process is still supported with fossil fuels. I’m sure as a company they are feeling the pain.

I would want the large battery pack so you get some decent range and that adds another $6K and potentially no rebate. The standard battery range seems like it could be an annoyance especially in cold weather.
Rivian started out as a viable option, now it’s just a toy for the rich to show off.

It’s a picture that’s been used for years to highlight the way some countries extract cobalt, which we then import. In part because of the supply chain and *possibly* the human rights issues, Tesla and Rivian are or have already transitioned to lithium iron phosphate, which doesn't use cobalt.

You can use the image search features on smart phones and computers to quickly see where else an image is available on the web:

    > You didn’t know any of that when you ordered it though. I’d call that lucky not smart.

No. I did know that I'd get my truck faster which plays into all those things that happened. There was literally zero risk so anything that comes after is a bonus. Turns out the upside was huge.

I am not saying I am smart by putting in a reservation. What I am saying is that it wasn't dumb.

Sure everyone wants the large pack but 6k… I’ll just chill and charge it, stretch out the legs.

I don’t think the small pack would work for us for snowboard trips. Even the large might be pushing it depending on how much range is lost from the cold. We’ll stick with the 4Runner and it’s shitty gas mileage for ski trips for now.

Thanks! The Radenso Theia DOES look awesome but SEMA 2019 and no known release date is worse than the Rivian R1T.

I agree, that’s most of what is happening in here from people that are fearful of the switch to EVs, uncertain whether that future is better and doubt that there will be enough power or lithium.

Rivian appears to have cancelled their entry level vehicle packages. I think supply chain issues are really impacting their business.

I’m not going to argue the viability of EV’s, but I’d hesitate spending $80K+ on a vehicle from a manufacturer with Rivian’s balance sheet.

An EV Tacoma (made in TX so I could get the $7,500 rebate) would be something I would consider because I trust Toyota to be around in 10 years. Rivian just doesn’t give me the same confidence.

I think Toyota would be smart to buy out Rivian. They would have all the tooling and setup ready and just need to make line changes to manufacture whatever EV they desire. Toyota battery Mfg. plant to be built in NC would be ideal since it would be closer to Ohio where the Rivian is produced than Texas or Mexico where the Tacoma is produced. I'm surprised Amazon hasn't acquired Rivian outright since they have such a large interest in Rivian already.
