255/85/16 or 265/75/16

Well I am looking at getting a new set of tires here soon, and would like to go up a size, what do you guys think 255/85/16 or 265/75/16. I have the billies at 1'' in the front right now, and about 2.5'' lift out back.

I have narrowed it down to either duratracs or km2

1" in front and 2.5" in back? What set up is in the rear? I would say 255s but I don't know how bad rubbing will be with only 1" in front

 

I can move my 5100's up to 2.5'' if need be. I've got an AAL in the rear, but have a shell so it took away dome of the lift (3'' aal)

 

honestly, do you really wheel enough to justify the 255's? I know I haven't been lately so I downsized to 265/75's and gained about 3 mpg, plus no more rubbing on the frame at full lock.

Either way if you go 255's, definitely go with the km2's.

 

Cooper S/T is the way to go if you go 255/85/16. They don't have a lot of lug on the side, so this results in a less of a chance to rub the frame. Mine barely kiss the frame at full lock to the right, but the irrelevant because I have a 2nd gen.

For you, as a general rule, I would go 265s for keeping it simpler.

 

had those before the BFG's, and they didn't just kiss the frame at full lock lol. Not horrible rubbing either though. I was also never able to balance them so I finally got rid of them.

For the record, mine were blemished bought on ebay.

I'm sorry, sucks you had bad tires. Another thing why I didn't get the KM2s was they are mud terrains and I hear they are no good with snowy roads conditions which is not a rarity here in CO.

 

that is true unless you sipe them. My old S/T's were absolutely awesome in snow.

 

I think I'm going to go with the Goodyear duratrac in a 265/75/16.

255/85/16 = lost mileage
285/75/16 = 3" lift or higher

That's my issue is getting some 255s or 285s but load ratings are outrageous in those sizes.

 

I have run 255/85/16 for the last 120K w/o problem.
Some loss in power but still plenty for anything I ask my truck to do, including some towing.
As far as mileage I also installed a Truespeed tire calibrator to help the tranny shift correctly and give me an accurate odometer and MPH. And to avoid tickets - I know if my speedo is reading 70mph I am not going 78mph.

The coopers tat I have come in D load rating. I don't really notice a difference in ride from them.

 

My coopers rode way rougher than my old P rated pathfinders, which was to be expected at load range D. Now my load range E BFG's ride even rougher than the coopers, but not bad at all.

It is the diameter that really kills power, not the weight.

 

I have a manual trans so keeping the RPMs higher for less lug is no problem with me

 

i have 255/85s maxxis bighorns and i haven't noticed much or any power loss, and my mpgs have only dropped like 1 mpg. also i have no rubbing but i do have a little more lift then you, and i do have a 2.7 but i did exhaust and the deckplate mod, so that may have helped my mpg, and power loss. oh and the bighorns are great in the snow.
