Directionality of compression piston rings

I got new piston rings and #1 (top) doesn't have any dot markers but #2 does on one side (see picture). Is that because #2 is directional (dot side looking up) but #1 is not? Haynes doesn't say anything about it. The original #2 did not have a dot (to make it more confusing).

 

Are they OEM or aftermarket?

Not really, the profile seems pretty square.

The dot seems to be the only irregularity

 

Contact the manufacturer then it didn't come with an instruction manual, you *DO NOT* want to get it wrong, could be the difference between a running motor and an impractical paperweight.

Googling resulted in this but I wouldn't take that as a guarantee and only go by it if you can't get a concrete answer from the manufacturer of ypur rings.

I just went to the shed and confirmed no beveling, very square profile. The instruction manual says if no dot markers direction doesn't matter.
