    WEEKEND UPDATE

    I saw THREE meeses
I caught 1-1/2 fishies (one was only about 4" long and the fly was bigger than his head so I don't think he counts as a whole fish)
    I made Jiffy Pops!
And I maybe inadvertently caused bodily injury to an Irish motorcyclist

It was a good time. I had a few beers. Nobody acted stupid. I did back up into a tree. Hit the trailer hitch, no damage.

    full weekend update

took off thursday and headed to a camp that i've gone to for years - back to my childhood and camping with my folks. lots changed since then and its a pretty nice place.
was not happy to find that the usually FREE campground is now $15/night and there's no mention of that on the FS website (I checked before i headed that way because so many camps have upped their fees and I don't carry much cash). But I paid because the camp host is my parents' neighbor and he keeps the camp pretty nice.

Thursday night was awesome - so quiet with only me, the host and a retired couple from WI. I fished until dark in the creek that runs through camp.
Friday AM I was on my morning walk with my coffee mug and stopped to chat with the WI folks. Super nice, used to own a log home building company so we talked shop for a while. He fishes too, so we compared favorite fishing grounds. Then we both headed out on the creek - him one way and me the other.

Friday night the weekend warriors start showing up. Sites on either side of me are open. and what do you know....the freaking newbies pull in next to me. ugh. camp host is already turned in for the night. morons take forever to park. dude ends up nearly jackknifing his 5th in the process...and high centering it. they settled on using a 4x8 timber wedged on top of the concrete parking barrier to level out. the first time he went on the timber he overshot and the back wheel went over the concrete. took him a bit to get both axles on one side. so they set up. they have some tiny white rat looking dog that needs to be carried everywhere. and a flamethrower. now we're about a day away from being under fire restrictions due to how dry it is here and this dumb ass grabs a 5 gallon propane tank and a propane torch to light a GD campfire. i got my fire going with a cigarette lighter and a piece of newspaper.... anywho....flamethrower fire complete. i'm starting to get a little nervous around these idiots. its dark by now. i'm settled in by my fire reading. moron and his wife now decide that they need an incredibly bright flashlight. that they keep sweeping over my campsite AND across my face. WTF! do I do the sensible thing and go talk to them? no. I get out my coleman lantern, set it on high and set it on the ground under the end of my picnic table so that the concrete leg reflects ALL of the light back to their site. want to be annoying? two can play that game.... and then some folks in a dispersed camping site across the road start playing music really loudly. until midnight. I was done with campground life.

Saturday morning I said goodbye to the host and the WI folks, told them I needed a quieter campsite. headed up a different road and was hoping that the one and only campsite along that road was available....JACKPOT!!! I got my site all by itself for miles and fishing in the creek just steps out the back door. So I get the camper set up - leveled, windows open, awning out, chairs out, shovel/axe/bucket next to the fire ring so if the FS folks drive by they know I'm prepared. Get the fishing gear out and i head for the creek. I'm down there a while and just hear some of the road noise as everyone rumbles past. Then I hear some motorcycles pull in and shut down. Figure I should go back up and check that everything is OK in my camp, don't like knowing someone else could be lurking up there. So I wade back out of the creek - SPLOOSH, SPLOOSH, SPLOOSH - and up the bank - STOMP, STOMP, STOMP - and crest the hill to see three guys on dual sport bikes decked out for a long road trip all stopping to wee right next to my camp! Now this isn't the only spot to stop along the road, just the only one big enough to camp in so why they decided that the one occupied pullout with a camper quite obviously set up in was the one and only spot to stop....I dunno. So me being me I shouted "WOOHOO!!!" One guy almost fell down the hill into the creek, another toppled into a tree, and the third....well...I think he might have had a little uh, "incident" with his zipper. OOPSIES! Not my fault their situational awareness sucks! You look around and make sure no one's in the area before you unleash the kraken! Geez.... They all started shouting apologies but the "zipper" guy seems a little more uncomfortable than the other two hence my assumption that he might have zipped up a little too quickly when I reappeared from the creek. They were quick to clear out of the area and the rest of my afternoon/evening/morning was quite peaceful.
