Attic work sucks -- especially in the summer, the last 4 times I was in the garage attic it was over 120 degrees up there and each time I told myself "...this should be the last time..."

For electric work I like to go big rather than go again.
I can see loads in the game room increasing over the years as who knows what is added, would it be practical to pull a larger line and put a sub panel somewhere near by?

A few years ago I went to change the hot water tank out and found a leak had completely destroyed the entire hallway, took me about 3 weeks to replace the bad beams and flooring.

Can't like that but it is an excellent example of water being promiscuous.
Must have been an awful job. :pout:

Yeah it sucked, the worst part was not having hot water for 3 weeks while I fixed all that. Heating water up on the stove to do dishes and bathe with was a real pain in the butt.

If it was electric you could have temporary rigged it most anywhere, gas not so easy.

It is electric but would have been too difficult to rig anything up due to the entire area needing replaced.

I'd have a water heater in my living room with PEX pipe and #10 wire on the floor before I gave up hot morning showers.
Sometimes in the morning I'm not even sure I'm alive before I hit the shower.

I walked across the beams for 3 weeks with no issues, and naturally the very last night before the floor was going down I slipped thru and shattered the hot water pipes, Grrr!

I have always had trust issues with older plastic pipe for just that reason. Fortunately I haven't had any break in service but when tearing it out it shatters so easily -- terrifying to think it had 100 psi (city) water pressure on it.

I was a big believer in copper until the prices went into orbit, it is so satisfying to craft a job neatly.

The PEX is so fast to work with and once you invest in the tools and a good supply of fittings/rings it is a very economical system.

I cleaned up about 30 lbs of previous internet and cable runs off the side and inside of my house. Holy crap, I want to punch the AT&T guy who installed the previous owner's cable. So many holes, so many half assed ports, and wires that were run to nothing I just pulled right out the walls... They even cut a hole in the wall, realized they missed the mark, then screwed a cover plate straight into the drywall. Turns out they missed the drywall since the hole was bigger than the distance between screws, so it was just barely hanging on. :annoyed: They cut a section of carpet out in one spot to put a stupid little ethernet box instead of a wall box too.

I don't even want to know what all is run into the attic. Even the new Xfinity guy just ran the cable around the bottom edge of the back of the house instead of going into the wall at the box, then straight up into the attic so it would be all contained...

Maybe someday in the future l can look into replacing the supply lines with PEX.

A good crimper is the biggest expense, about $65 IIRC. Get a good cutter too, just makes the job easier on you.

I found that cutting the PEX as close to perfectly straight was the hardest part to get right. A pair of ratcheting pipe cutters really eased the job.

I think @wilcam47 posted about this in the woodworking thread. Anyway, my repair kit arrived today in a huge oversized box. Appears to be 2 screws, a new guard and some instructions. Just need to find the time to install.

Just applied for mine in the last few days. Figured it would be easier to DIY instead of trying to find a place to do the repair/fix.
