    I can only assume you were talking about my wheel/tire photo. I agree with you that it looks excessive and prolly could have been accomplished with less weights using your technique.
    I bought these tires & wheels from a fellow TW member - already mounted & balanced. Thus, I was not present in the shop when the weights were attached, so unable to say anything to the tech.
    They are balanced and are holding their balance, so I'll leave them be for now. First sign of trouble and I'll try your method (not the sand, but the re-positioning).

    You could also use card stock like flash cards and just stick them between tire and wheel all the way around.

    yep, seen that done with playing cards too.
    Being the cheap ass I am, I just used free cardboard from a left over box. But for a better quality job - use the individual card stock (like you said).

    AT Overland Summit,
    There is something called balance beads. Much cleaner than weights and no risk of a weight getting knocked off. I have 5k with them so far.

    I sold my taco with the winter tires on and still have these in the garage. I ran them for maybe 4-5k miles before winter last year.     Good question - I have ordered many, many sets of tires from Amazon and haven't ever had a defective tire.

    I don't think MT tires have tread wear warranties anyway.
