I paid $900 for a rusty 300K 4-owner 96 3.4/auto. At the time it was the only 4WD 4Runner (for parts) I’d seen on marketplace in 6+ months. Just Texas things.

back in VT you can definitely find them for cheap, but I am way too lazy to deal with the rust. the VT DMV valued mine at $1500 when I first bought it.
I paid $4500 for it.. a 4 banger out of CA. I've put about another $2k into it over the past 3 years (mostly in the past 2 months), and I'm perfectly happy with that.
I'd have no trouble selling it for $6500+, but why?

I know that with Tacomas at least, before TRD package was a thing you could order the e-locker on any trim 4x4 1st gen so you sometimes see them on 1995.5 - 1997s that you wouldn't expect to see them on. Since that 4runner is a '97 I wonder if it was the same thing, added on at the time of order/purchase?

either way pretty rare but he's asking way too much for a 4banger, if it were a low miles 3.4l one I could see asking that

Agreed on the too much money, but a boosted 3RZ 4Runner with a manual could be fun...

    4 run, 2 don't
    Yes sir

I remember my co-worker telling me one day that he had too many cars.

Here she is when I bought it, and before I ruined her -

    20200926_192138.jpg

    Damn that's cheap!

    Not really rare.

Some people just don't list it (and have the option) or list it incorrectly. I see plenty on craigslist here.

Really I'm surprised you don't consider a 4th Gen instead. You can find a nice clean one for cheaper than a 3rd Gen.

No manual trans with 4th gens, only looking at 97 - 2000 T4Rs for the manual 4x4 option
