:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/porchies. It finally rained here! There have been storms over the past few weeks but none of them ever. managed to hit us. The yard was looking pretty terrible. The rain wasn't really heavy, which is good because it can soak in a bit. Radar shows us possibly getting some more as the day progresses. It's not often that I'm thankful for a rainy day but this is definitely one of those times.

Grilled some 1/2 lb sirloin burgers last night. Had to pull the grill under the lanai to escape a downpour and this morning the whole house has a faint smell of grilled meat. Gotta say, I kinda like it.

    Afternoon all:

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY @wanna taco!

OK. picked up everything for the new well pump. The place we wanted to purchase the pump from was out of the pumps we wanted, and they do sell Jacuzzi pumps. Went to another place and ended up with a Myers pump, then back to the first place to get everything else needed. Wanted to install it with 160 poly pipe but ended up with 125, the instructions for the pump say that 125 will be ok, they were also out of 5/16" poly rope, think we were lucky to get everything needed to do the job with all the shortages.
Then bought 1/2 gal. of Clorox that was over $6.00, a gallon was almost $11.00  ! Both places said it probably wasn't clay all over everything but some type of harmless bacteria, and that we should shock the well with Clorox while we have it open.

FYI Carl, don't do dark clothes laundry for a while until the bleach gets thinned out. When I did my pump and I shocked the well, I didn't give it any thought until I looked at my clothes:eek::annoyed:. Fortunately mostly work clothes so no biggie. Hope you get it up and running today.

    Thank you!
For some reason, this (82nd) birthday seems more important than B Days past. Kinda like when you're a kid expecting big life changes after your eighth birthday. To be realistic, I'll be lucky to have any more!

I made my favorite pineapple upside down cake last night, and I've got chicken cacciatore simmering on the stove. Nobody coming to dinner, just me and the wife, I expect phone calls from our sons and maybe a Niece and the Grandkids. A good friend sent me a card that advised: "Whatever you do, don't stop getting older."

My wife and I played a trivia game at breakfast, naming things the current generation would not have a clue about. I wonder how many of these you Boomers have never heard of?

Punch cards; ugh! I learned to program in high school in the early 1970s using a Teletype machine hooked to a mainframe via an acoustic coupler; slow but more or less real time. I started making a living by programming using real time editors and compilers (via a CRT) after I got out of the Marines in the late(ish) 1970s, then I decided to go to college; yeesh, I had to take an "Introduction to Computer Science" course where I was reduced to programming via punch cards; something I'd never done before.

    Funny story……

I was a furniture guy in the late 70’s and early 80’s when Pacbell was using punchcard machines for billing. They had these elaborate but heavy terminals that read and sorted these cards quickly and the person at the terminals had to be well trained and quick at their job.

Fast forward to 1982 low and behold the cubicle and the dumb terminal have taken over. We swept through the many buildings replacing punchcard Machines, most people were ready to adapt to the new ways except this one lady that wouldn’t let us take her machine. She started crying and screaming. I had my guys back off and we got a manager. She got nowhere fast. Security came same result, She was not having it. When we left for the day she was still clutching her machine crying. Who knows she may still be there.

A very happy birthday Alan from a fellow Oakland Bay Area guy. I read your trivia list and it’s kind of scary, I remember every single thing on the list like it was yesterday. Let’s just continue to get older and make memories.
