    There’s the two oil rig platforms and a spare to rapidly iterate a new, yet undisclosed location. Wouldn’t surprise me if they built a few more, complete mechzillas for rapid deployment. I just hope they get going with their orbital flight test soon.

    It would make a certain amount of sense to try the first catches on a barge where a mishap would be less costly. Any reason to build a pair for Vandenberg and off West coast?

    I would think Elon would want to have a Starship base near many of the major metropolitan areas to take advantage of transport and local manufacturing opportunities. Vandenberg, being a military base already conducting space ops, would probably have at least one. But with all his grandiose plans, who knows.

    I'll answer, with my limited experience with NASA:

    Aerospace engineer, mechanical engineer, fluid dynamics, software...

    Have her go to the NASA jobs site, and look through all the posted openings. Of course they change over time, but she will get an understanding of what skills/knowledge is needed.
