I don't know why anyone would take a bronco over a jeep if they like offroading.

If you just want something that looks cool do whatever you want

While I have not had both in my hands at the same time or driven a bronco. We do have a Bronco Off road group here that rides with us occasionally. So far both times we head out one of the Broncos goes down. It's either a mud puddle, an engine issue, a control arm, stuck in the mud. I'm not close enough with the individuals to follow up and figure out what went wrong. I must admit thou, I do really like the way they look, a lifted 4 door built right looks sick. But thats where it ends foe me. The one issue I have is how low the rear shocks sit under the axle. How can any company claim to build an off road capable vehicle with so much hanging below the axle.

Look at this pic. Its a stock internet image for the ARB bumper. The axle is midway in relation to the tire/wheel. Those are at least 35/37s and the lower shock mount is maybe 6 inches off the ground, at least 4 inches below the diff. Thats dookie. It's just like any other vehicle that requires a ton of work to be capable.

Yeah, the low hanging crap sucks, but they do come stock with 35s, so that helps.

I go out with a lot of other Broncos on a regular basis. Seems half of them are new to off roading and cause most of their problems. We have had one die from a failed fuel pump though. Took two of us to get him out.

Switch from a Toyota to a Ford? Your kidding... right? That doesn't even make sense.

I recall a few years ago, I bought a Lexus LS430. The dealership let me take the car for the whole weekend. Friday and return it Monday, instead of returning it, I bought it....

Worst financial decision of my life but that's another story for another time.

I do like some of the Broncos I've seen floating around, don't think Id buy one though.

What finally killed the bronco on our Moab trip was the location of the alternator. It sits insanely low for a vehicle of this type and got KO'd by a relatively mild (but long puddle). Stopped it dead in its tracks.

It's a little disappointing that Ford had all this time to study the Wrangler and potentially engineer something that could outperform it on the trail, yet failed. I'll give the Bronco this....it drives very nice on the highway.

and that's one of the main reasons to buy it - the other being that it's the cool new not-Jeep

I'd still take a Jeep if it were my money :anonymous:

Oh I use the crap out of my truck bed - kayaks, mountain bikes, and camping gear on the weekends and lumber/building materials, etc. during the week. The only reason I think I could make the Bronco work is I now have a nice 6x12 utility trailer that can work for all my hauling needs. One thing I did just realize though is that I likely wouldn't have space to open the rear cargo area on the Bronco while the trailer is hooked up which is VERY annoying (swing out gate must open all the way to open up the hardtop rear glass). I keep going back and forth on which one to go with... yesterday was a "Bronco" day, today feels like a "stick with the Taco day." Taco being paid off is definitely appealing as others mentioned since we also have to buy a Pilot or Highlander whenever one becomes available for my wife.

Thanks or that info. What I kind of see from this thread is that most of us want to like the Bronco. But it ends there.

I would only buy a new Bronco to be a weekend warrior, and my wife followed me in my Tacoma as a recovery vehicle.
