My latest build. Just the upper. A M16A1 with a brownells retro 4x scope. Eventually I'll get a "correct" lower fo rit but for now its just on my MK12 Mod 0's lower. Always fun to just go back to basics. And enjoy how light the "original" was compared to adding all the cool stuff to it.

Love the retro build but when it comes to weight you can build a flat top even lighter. You just have to avoid a government or heavy barrel profile and bolting every accessory and the kitchen sink to it like most people online do.

people always marvel at how light my AR is compared to theirs. It was a weight conscious build to make it easier for my wife to handle but is far from an ultralight build.

O completely agree. Can definitely get light "modern" setups too.

    Yes.

It can happen if you screw in the tube/baseplate without pushing the spring into the detent hole. Maybe someone wasnt paying attention.

On all my lowers, I tap the detent hole, cut a 1/4" off the spring, and run a 4-40 set screw in it.

Yeah can't see any other way other than that. I mad sure the new spring pushed all the way in and the plate closed flush over it so hopefully it won't happen again. I like the set screw idea like aero and BA does like you mentioned but now that's it's on I don't have any plans to remove that plate again. I guess if I do for any reason then I'll tap it.
